so, apple releases this awesome new touch screen ipod and...

lowers the hard drive space to something no advanced device has seen in 5-6 years?

i mean seriously, they are charging $400 for something that has 16gb of hard drive space?

doesn't anyone else find this laughable?

i have a zune that doesn't have a touch screen, but the screen is almost the same size and it has twice the hard drive space, and it was $200 less...

I thought it was dumb idea for other reasons, but I totally agree it's silly for them to put out a 16bg. IMO the worst part of the touchscreen is that most peeps don't actually touch their ipod, unless it's in their car, and even then Alpine made an amazing new in dash deck that is way better than fooling around w/your ipod.

Honestly I find it laughable that people have been buying only iPods for all of these years when there are many other products on the market with a better price, more space, and compatible with more services. None of the online music services work with the iPod. I wouldn't mind getting a Nano, but Apple's monopolistic tendencies keep me away from their products. Not because I actually care, but because I can't use it with Rhapsody.

Anyway, people will buy it for the screen. Have to admit, the screen is pretty sweet, but the loss in storage just doesn't make sense for a "practical person".

Apple is the one who fought to remove DRM from audio files, and actually offer DRM free files in the iTunes store... fucking monopolistic tendency if I ever saw it.

haha, i handed my wife an ipod to take out on a walk the other day and she gave me this crazy look like I just handed her garbage....she HATES the ipods now that I got the zune...

the funny thing is though, the zune was a gift from TCG, i would never have personally bought it, but now that I have it, i can say without a doubt it s far better than any ipods

Good for them. I will start caring when I can use my music service with the iPod, the music service that every other MP3 player works just fine for.

What is your obsession with Apple anyway? Have stock?

I bought my MP3 player three years ago. I think it's 30 GB, it was $250. The iPod at the time was going for over $300 for a similar storage.

I've never had a problem with my MP3 player either, while every person I know with an iPod has had some type of problem. One of my friends iPods just stopped working. My girlfriend's iPod just stopped working. My brother was just here visiting, brought his Nano that he just got for Christmas because he wanted to take it to the Apple store. Guess what? It just stopped working.

Yes, they are very sleek and very sexy... I'll fully admit, if I was an electronics cable I would be begging to insert myself into the iPod data port. But from my experience, buying an iPod over the other available products, is either due to trendiness or loyalty.

One of my friends who was having problems with their iPod told me they were going to buy a new one. I said "why, look at all the problems you are having? Get something else instead and you can use your Rhapsody service with it." "I love Apple products!"

It's a flash drive. Isn't 16 or so as big as those go at the moment?

If you want size, you can get the new Video "Classic" or whatever it is they're calling it...with 160 gig.

My first MP3 player had 32 mb.

good read
Is Apple the New Microsoft?
Don't look now, but the role of the industry's biggest bully is increasingly played by Apple, not Microsoft.

I was one of the first to get their hands on a Sony Walkman when they came out in the early eighties. I think it cost around $300 and it played a cassette tape. There was nothing like it at the time and the sound was killer. Today there are so many choices it's hard for me to find anything to complain about and for the record I bought an 80G Ipod a few months ago and have not had any problems with it....................yet.

it's not a hard disk. It uses flash memory.... which is wayyyy faster than classic magnetic i/o.

so yes, flash of 8 or 16gb is worth that much, not to mention you get great features packed in one amazing product ;)

Ipod classic (and probably nano) uses hard disk.
