We are currently trying to decide between a GL2 and a Sony TRV-950 , the new sony PDX10 looked nice but I cant get a hold of one right now... I guess sony only has 40 nationally so far? If you have some time to spare you may want to check out the Sony DSR-PDX10 prosumer camera..... 3ccd, yadda yadda but the picture is superb Iam told. We also looked into the Panasonic AG-EZ50U but from everyone I talked to it was a shitty camera and Panasonic is also on backorder til the end of september for them as well. Hope this helps.

Are you producing amateur content or glamour shoots?

Sony VX2000, it has the best lux rating.

That is all.

Also, what is the end product? If it's just a 160x or 320x window, there's no need to buy a super-duper 3-chip camera. On the other hand, if you're going into producing VHS and DVD product for viewing on full-size monitors and TV screens, get something really good. I'm sure you'll get some good advice here on that score. My only point is that if the image is going to be small, the difference between a good high-end and a good low-end camera will be all but imperceptible.

We were looking for a 1 hand usable cam....... is the vx2000 pretty unruly? I mean is it super bulky , or possible to use with 1 hand. Also I was told the gl2 could be used with 1 hand, is that true? Thanks.

My experience has been that better quality in the original video content has more leverage for web presentation than for tape dupes. In other words, the difference between a Hi8 and a 3-CCD DV camcorder is actually more noticeable in an encoded movie file than in a VHS copy of the same material.

Regardless, the better the original format, the better the final product- doesn't matter which way you go. Always go for the highest quality in the camcorder that you can afford.

Rory- The VX2000 is somewhat awkward to use for event coverage but manageable. I used a wrist brace the first few weeks but no longer need it. You might consider a shoulder brace but I find an extended battery placed on my chin is enough support for rock-steady tight zooms at 40 feet. Handheld for studio work should give good results, it's heft is actually an advantage in that it steadies the hand more than a palmcorder does.

With that said- I am getting a TRV-950, which I feel will be less "pro" looking (a lot more "Are you with GIRLS GONE WILD!?!" comments with the VX2000 than with palmcorders) as well as being a full pound lighter. I'd considered a GL2, which a friend uses with impressive results, but I have to admit to being a Sony man.
