Processing Myths Destroyed - great article everyone should read

This is the best article I have read in a long time about processing.

Great job Rand! I learned a lot today from this and you truly know your stuff.

Every paysite owner should read this and learn from it.

This is an excellent point, I did not know this until I read the article.

Local Currencies:
"... A real misconception is that you need to use offshore or region-centric billing services to accept the currency types not usually offered by major billing companies. In fact, utilizing such services might put your site in danger of violating cross-border acquiring rules without your knowledge. The risk of losing your ability to accept the major card types is hardly worth the limited rewards you might gain from accepting local billing currencies. You should check with a legal consultant to make sure you are not exposing yourself to risk."

Of course, not being able to process Visa/Mc would end your days of being an adult webmaster/Affilate Program!

good article but no offense some of it seems rather "sugar coated"

" It is important to remember that billing companies and website owners' interests are perfectly aligned"

hmm i guess ibill was the exception to the rule

Rand is one of the most respected and talented people in this industry. His loyalty with paycom/epoch is notable as the company has evolved through challenging times and now represent the benchmark for third party processing.

The information given in this article is a fair and accurate representation of processing to date. I am pleased that this article is created because this entire industry is at the mercy of processing. I have even taken the time to educate my entire sales team on this article specifically.

Keep up the good work Rand.

Rand

I had no idea about some of these cross border rules that you pointed out.
You clearly explained these rules / regulations in laymen's terms and potentially prevented me from putting my business in jeopardy without me even knowing it.

Based on your article, it's clear that US based online vendors CANNOT use a non USA based IPSP to clear credit card transactions.
If a webmaster decides to go ahead and do this anyway, they are clearly not in compliance with cross-border acquiring rules.

Any paysite owner would be an absolute fool to give up or put at risk 85% - 90% of their business by trying test a billing company that is not based in the same processing region in which they are registered.
Of course, testing a new "wiz bang" a credit card company or two in a effort to squeeze more money out of your users may sound logical at first.
But going ahead and moving fwd without first doing your due diligence will ultimately end up biting you in the ass and even threaten your core credit card processing capability.

It's also great to see that Epoch itself is capable of processing the major eight card types, including many of those wacky Euro debit cards.

So thanks again for pointing this out to us, this article may of saved a few webmasters from potential disaster!

Yes, it did. Thank you so far. I set up my sites with CCBill some time ago and I´m testing them at the moment. I didn´t have one single chargeback or refund so far. That is - in my opinion - the advantage of using CCBill. Same will be with Epoch, I´m sure.

I didn´t have problems getting my sites active and I hope that I can manage to grow them soon.

The only disadvantage is that cascading isn´t possible without using a software like NATS or MPA3. Since Epoch offers a light version of MPA3, maybe it is advisable to check it out.

Nice article Rand, thanks for sharing
Got a quick question about cross borders rules. Let's say I process www.mysite.com with an US IPSP from an US company and now I also want to process for the same stuff with an EU IPSP from and EU company.

Do I need to register a completly different url for that or are subdomains ok?
Is www.mysite.eu acceptable? (I guess yes)
Is eu.mysite.com acceptable?
