:2cents OPINION: there are more sales reps than actual adult webmasters on GFY

Think about it.

The message boards originated as a way for independent working from home adult webmasters from all around the globe, to communicate with each other, discuss how to make money with this online porn thing and exchange opinions on which programs are trustworthy and good to promote.

Fast forward few years and we have message boards run by big program owners as big money making machines; and there are around 350 affiliate programs (!!!) present on GFY as will76 counted so - so we can safely assume that at least 500 people here either run an affiliate program or are employed by it.

Do you think there are more than 500 active posters here who are 'traditional' webmasters working from home, submitting galleries or doing SEO work on their own? I don't think so....

Who knows. It all depends what you define an "actual adult webmaster" as - I'm sure a lot of sales representatives were either traditional adult webmasters before, or still do some webmastering on the side.

Wow. I rarely answer fluff threads but I am thinking about this. I honestly don't know, though I avoid affiliate reps though because unless there is a technical issue they seldom offer any advice of real value to me.
So are there? I assumed the people on this board were actual webmasters not surfers or aff reps.

Good question...

A little too much "black SEO" and a little to much "bean counters" to really care about proper technical issues around web development, promotions & SEO.

People will quote what others say on GFY as fact before even reading a book and or manual... not to say quoting members on GFY is wrong...

I'm not sure if there is much actual adult web traffic just looking for porn or if most of the actual traffic here at GFY is from adult webmasters who are promoting associate programs and or content...

Later,

.

Same as Sarah. One thing doesn't exclude the other. I've got my gigs on the side that are doing very well.

The one thing that I do not do is spam. I mean, I will ask webmasters to try us out in a "spam me with..." thread, but I will never post you a picture of one of our girls out of the blue and say "hey, that almost looks like that time in LA when I was with [name of girl] [picture with link to cash program]".

I can't spam in person either. I don't like to insult people's intelligence. This may be a flaw I have considering that I'm supposed to be selling the program, but I think we have better results when we just step off the sales pitch and actually have a good time with the webmaster without conditioning him in any way. As a webmaster, I hate it when sales people can't stop talking about their product, so I try not to do the same with ours.

Exactly - or were webmasters when they started.

Polish_aristocrat - the other thing you are missing is that although you may be referring to the posters here, there are still many people who are lurkers - either new people still intimidated by the chaos in here or the true blue vets that aren't here to make friends. Not everyone is of the belief that GFY lacks their [HOT PICS] thread but will come in either to scope more info on what people are doing to get traffic 'these days' or to see who can fill a need they have on a new project.

I do both, never stopped webmastering for a moment.

I did have someone assert that it was a conflict of interest to be both an affiliate and an affiliate support rep.

Cant win, not tryin

Great Thread!

Just my

I think this is an inspired thread, and if we appropriately categorize the posts and do some rudimentary analysis: ie: instructive, retard, surfer, aff rep, webmaster response...

We can probably arrive at a fairly representative statistical correlation that will directly address the premise posed by polish_aristocrat.

Who has time to run the stats?

In my view it is difficult to be be good at affiliate support if you haven't atleast been an affiliate yourself.

I think there's a problem if a rep ISN'T a webmaster.

It makes no sense for them not to use the inside knowledge to make more money with their own program. Plus, other webmasters respect them more.

I have to agree - a rep with no experience and no understanding, won't be able to distinguish opportunities for the company, won't be able to piece different strategies together in order to morph them into different streams of traffic.

Some companies prefer to get fresh people from the mainstream world - that's good but they need to understand the 'adult market' and 'porn surfer' market today - and that's like trying to have a conversation in mandarin when you're from some hicktown.

The reps who have dabbled in many facets of the 'webmaster' side are the ones that can relate to the affiliates and they are also have a higher respect for affiliates because they are one themselves & although they may be 'sales' they also understand their marketing cuz they wore many hats as a webmaster.

half of the people who open paysites and affiliate programs instead of doing the usual affiliate work do it cause they think it's easy money, or because they think owning a sponsor program "sounds better" than sending traffic to others

i never understand them though, in fact i hate in a way all these small programs and never promoted them either

for me sponsor program = big name, multiple people emploeyed, multi million dollar business... just like it was the standard in the days when I started

the affiliate program owners should know this biz 'in and out', much better than the affiliates

I would never promote a guy who seems to have less clue about this biz than I have... I like the professionality and the image of a serious business, and not one man operation who's owner can get out of this biz tommorow cause he gets bored or he has a car accident

I aggree with you but when you are new in the adult world, its kind of hard to figure out which affliate is best to use, You can go to a nicley laid out affliate website, which looks proffesional, has a lot of free content to promote, only to find out later that its run by one guy, and even with the big affliates, they can shut down their websites over night if they wanted to, I still have a lot to learn in this business, but for new and small webmasters like myself its like a maze of affliates..so who do i choose, they all seem to be giving out this and that for signups, have this and that to promote and at the end of the day its all a learning proccess for us noobs, In my short time as an adult webmaster i have learned that one of the best places to get info about the adult biz is forums, before i found this forum, I did not even know there were so many affliate programs to promote, so to me an afflaite who gives me good incentives to promote their products, has good webmaster and customer support and pay out on time without bouncing checks wheather they are huge or a one man affliate set up are both as good as each other.
