Most people use icq. It's what I use for business. I also use Yahoo and MSN but only for personal, not business.

It's been around forever, you can change your display name, and still have the same number.

First off this topic is getting way to fucking old.
Next AIM and ICQ are 100% compatitable. ICQ can message AIM users and AIM can message ICQ users. Then many of us have been using ICQ for decades and do not wish to try to move over entire contact lists. Others use trillian which combine most all of them. People like myself use nearly all of the messagers aside from skype and I personally prefere Gtalk. However to answer the question, for the longest time ICQ was the main standard and only one with a history and ability to leave messages when people are offline.

Ya, that is best one out.

GTalk is way better, because it saves logs on web .. so, you loose nothing in case shit happens. And you can access the logs from mars even. Another plus is, Gtalk have built-in email .. which ICQ doesn't have. And emails from same contact are saved in form of conversation .. and you can recall the shit easily. Another plus is, we don't have to remember fucking numbers ![]() |

ICQ was bought, and is now owned by AOL, in case you didnt know. Either way, theres no reason for anyone to limit themselves to one IM network these days... youd think webmasters would have figured it out by now. Just grab one of the dozens of IM programs out there that connect to *all* of the IM networks (GAIM, Trillian, Adium for OSX, etc). They are generally better and have more features than the official IM clients for specific networks.
