Why ICQ?

I noticed everyone on the forum uses ICQ..

I personally prefer AIM, any other thoughts on this?

madawgz 08-14-2007 11:56 PM

even if you use AIM you can still communicate with someone on icq

Ice 08-14-2007 11:58 PM

Most people use icq. It's what I use for business. I also use Yahoo and MSN but only for personal, not business.

Fap 08-15-2007 12:05 AM

I know people use ICQ for the biz but i am asking why. What makes it so great?

Tempest 08-15-2007 12:07 AM

It was the first and became the defacto standard.

Because smoke signals crash constantly...

It's been around forever, you can change your display name, and still have the same number.

First off this topic is getting way to fucking old.

Next AIM and ICQ are 100% compatitable. ICQ can message AIM users and AIM can message ICQ users.

Then many of us have been using ICQ for decades and do not wish to try to move over entire contact lists. Others use trillian which combine most all of them. People like myself use nearly all of the messagers aside from skype and I personally prefere Gtalk. However to answer the question, for the longest time ICQ was the main standard and only one with a history and ability to leave messages when people are offline.

ICQ and its history logs are crap. You loose everything if some shit happen to your OS, hdd or so ..

GTalk is way better, because it saves logs on web .. so, you loose nothing in case shit happens. And you can access the logs from mars even.

Another plus is, Gtalk have built-in email .. which ICQ doesn't have. And emails from same contact are saved in form of conversation .. and you can recall the shit easily.

Another plus is, we don't have to remember fucking numbers :(

zand_stein 08-15-2007 03:30 AM

ICQ was bought, and is now owned by AOL, in case you didnt know.

Either way, theres no reason for anyone to limit themselves to one IM network these days... youd think webmasters would have figured it out by now.

Just grab one of the dozens of IM programs out there that connect to *all* of the IM networks (GAIM, Trillian, Adium for OSX, etc). They are generally better and have more features than the official IM clients for specific networks.

Violetta 08-15-2007 07:23 AM

I use icq for biz and msn for private

Baal.PitBull 08-15-2007 07:26 AM

Scott McD 08-15-2007 07:28 AM

ICQ for work.

MSN for friends (outside the biz).

.

exactly, because AOL is able to come up with only lame ass crap for noobs, thats why if they want something decent, they have to buy it.

StuartD 08-15-2007 07:32 AM

Think about your question for a minute... everyone uses icq... why?

The answer is... because everyone uses icq.

carol.prime 08-15-2007 01:47 PM

icq is the best communication specially if you're doing some business..

DDGcash 08-15-2007 01:55 PM

seems like all affiliates use it - use trillian and you can log into all of them.

ARS Bryan 08-15-2007 01:58 PM

I fucking hate ICQ

Fap 08-15-2007 02:02 PM

Yeah i think everyone in the biz uses ICQ but i feel like more people use MSN for personal.. but i feel like MSN is so impersonal and just not friendly..
