BCBS

I've had them for 12+ years. All my doctors take them (most important to me) and they pay bills ON TIME (2nd most important - too many horror stories about people getting sent to collections because legally THEY are responsible for the bill and the insurance company doesn't pay on time).

All dealings with them have been great and even though the monthly fees go up every year, I feel I'm still getting a good deal.

What do you currently pay if you don't mind me asking?

I have Wooden Cross!

It's free, and what they do is let you die and put up a couple of sticks to mark where they buried you...

I have had Kaiser Permanente for 10 years now and never had a problem! I pay a lot but the coverage is great.

$353 a month. I have a very high deductible ($5K) for procedures, but without having to meet my deductible Dr visits are $20 and prescrips are $25. Mammograms and pap smears also covered 100% w/o needing to meet the deductible. So far, I haven't had anything where I've needed to apply it to the deductible. I think it was around $500 a month with a $1K deductible.

That does seem high, but I think I'll still check into it though.

I've got BCBS too, I've had nothing but good news with them. I set my surgery deductable pretty high, just because I don't see myself needed anthing serious in the near future. Best part is everyone takes BCBS, don't need to worry about finding someone nearby who takes it.

For free? Absolutely free? Who pays for it then or do the doctors work for free there?

Whats the tax percentage in Austria? Thats why it's free no doubt, just paying ahead of time at tax time.

Understand that I'm 45 which is why mine is so high ;) I had an individual policy for my son (cheaper to get 2 policies than a family policy) and it was under $80 even up to the time he was 20 and that was with a low deductible.

When you check into a hospital or go to the doctor's office you sign a lovely piece of paper that says YOU are ultimately responsible for the bill. That's why I like BCBS - they have always been prompt in payments (and I've had plenty of opportunity to use them). I hear nightmare stories about people being hounded by doctors/hospitals/collection agencies when the insurance company doesn't pay promptly.

Even when my son broke his arm out of state we had no problem with getting everything covered even though it was clear a hospital and doctor in South Carolina wasn't on BCBS of Georgia's provider list. BCBSGA worked with BCBSSC and everything was taken care of.

Another good "insurance policy" to take out if you're in the US and travel out of the country is insurance to get you back to the states. This one was recommended and it's what I have: http://www.medjetassist.com/ It will bring you to any hospital you want in the US. In reading/watching travel information, this is one of the few travel insurances "experts" recommend getting.
