Here is a page for iPod Hacks that will let you upload/remove songs from a machine that is not "linked" to your iPod! Both Win and Mac are supported here. Me I love my Macs and Paralells lets me run everything windows will + Mac!

Just my 2¢ would be this with a Mac you can run Paralells and run windows almost full speed at the same time as OS X, BootCamp lets you reboot into a full blown Windows computer, with NO slow down, this is not emulated.

Here is the answer to your question:

I need good software instead of following for windows :
- ACDsee with multi-folder image processing - resizing, cropping, sharpening ... is similar to Graphics Convertor on the mac.
- Arles (not sure what this does)
- any FLV encoder - encoder from WMV to FLV various Free encoders
- Total Commander
- FTP Voyager = Fetch

ICQ Me and I can send you a ton of links to this stuff + some.

Mac Vs. PC

Perhaps you guys don't know... but the new Macs are running the same hardware that the x86, x64 and dual core is... Besides getting a great Mac OS and apple care... there are a lot of draw backs !

Look at the system specs first and compare that to the x86 or x64 before you do anything...

There is nothing wrong with Macs but I like the idea of if something breaks down on my system, that I could go down the block to get a replacement part at reasonable cost...

Windows =
32 bit Kernal Addressing on a
16 bit interface on top of a
8 bit file system on a
4 bit Operating System from a
2 bit Company that can't stand
1 bit of Competetion.

I love my Mac, I won't call it perfect but it's far better than all the other options out there.

Later,
I will agree on this fact that the parts are more costly, The iMac's are like laptops with the processor and graphics card attached to the board, the Mac Pro you would be able to upgrade as such. I rarely hear about this being an issue as My PowerMac G4 Just Turned 9 and it's never been in the shop (it's a file server now and runs 24X7)

So the moral of the story if you buy a new mac Buy the AppleCare for 3 years it's cheap and covers all the parts

I was just making a joke, I guess buy what you like, I am willing to get a better quality computer that costs a Few bucks more and run os x + windows. but that's just me. I hate fixing shit and the entire reason I love mac is that I never have to, it's not that I can't but I have better things to do...

I know that some people like to tinker with computers and tweak them and such, that's cool.

But it isn't really better quality because you're not choosing whats going into it. You can debate that the quality of the OS, but not the components. When I bought my last Laptop you couldn't even get 17" UWXGA screens on a Mac. I've been tempted a couple of times.. but the hardware just hasn't been as good as what I could get building my own.
Especially when you don't get a choice. Hell, you've only been able to even upgrade them properly in the past few years. It was ridiculous being stuck with an un-upgradable box.
Personally far from "thinking different" Apple just shephards you into their configurations based on what is good for their business.. I'd rather spend a few hours poring over Tom's Hardware and really spec out a killer machine.

It's really Apple's Achille's heel. Their hardware has always sucked, even when the fanboys said it was the best thing in the world. They have awesome GUI and product design... but the hardware always lets them down.. same with the ipod, iphone, one button mouse, cube, motorola chips.. etc etc.

Ok, first off, and this was kind of ironic, that as I was to post to this reply a few minutes ago, my PC locked up and caused me to reboot... No shit. Which of course reminded me of another reason I like my mac... programs run separated from other programs... if one does crash it's VERY rare that it's going to bring anything else your working on with it. Ok, why was I working on my pc? It just so happens to be living outs it's life in my office and I had my Macbookpro 17 in the bag from using it out and about today... and didn't feel like setting it back up tonight for a little internet reading, and my 20' Imac's been taken over by my wife now in sits upstairs in our living room... sign.. guess I actually need a 3rd mac now.

But, back to my original post... I had an issue with my Macbook pro. I was sitting down in starbucks and went to push my sprint express card in and felt something snap inside the computer... opps. The card would not "lock" into place after. Sigh. So I knew it was time to deal with apple support. Gave them a call, they told me to take it to the genius bar, so off I went. They happen to have a slot open and where able to see me right away. They wanted to keep the laptop for repairs (taking 7-10 days) and I siad nope, that would not work.. so I called apple support again and explained that this was a work machine and I could NOT be without it for 7-10 days. They had me call a local apple repair shop so I did and they OVERNIGHTED the parts to them. 24 hours later I was all fixed up ready to go, no cost out of my pocket.

Parts ARE more... Take the 30' screen, it's around 2k while the dell version (which is actually a little better in specs) is only 1200. (I just ordered on 2 days ago and am waiting for it to be delivered)

Same goes for Hard Drives, Ram etc. If you Do buy a Mac.. get those parts from other sources and you will save yourself a TON.

All in all it's a good solid computer. I had another issue with the Macbook pro, My battery just quit working after one of the OS updates. But all I did was walk into the apple store and up to the desk, told them what was up and they handed me a new battery. Simple enough.

I plan on buying a Mac Pro soon. Going for the Dual-Quad Xeons. Basically, buying its as stripped as they will sell it and adding the Ram and HD's myself.

On the formatting issue between the Macs and PC...

Simple to solve. Buy a program called "MacDrive". Format any external drives to the Mac format and install Macdrive on your PC... all set. Also, do yourself a favor if your getting a mac, and buy a 1000mb switch/or router... makes things very nice in large file transfers plus a lot of the new NAS drives have built in gigabit networking.

If you have any questions I would be happy to share anything I have learned using the Mac's over the last year.. just let me know.
