I love it, it just takes getting use too. pretty much like any major OS upgrade everyone hates it in the beginning cause it's different.

I love it. Way more stable than xp and the interface is better, looks better and is quicker.

Hardly ever crashes.

No problems with it whatsoever. The only people i see complaining about it are those who dont know how to configure it.

Hello Mr Vista I have a few questions for you.

Will you work with our version of AutoCAD ? Errrr maybe but there are a few issues
Will you work with our Roland and Epson plotters ? NO! Wait for new drivers
Will you work with older HP LaserJet?s ? Not the one you have
Will you work with our Genius web cams ? NO

That?s enough thanks, I?ll stick with XP until everyone sorts out their shit.

My girlfriend installs it and uninstalls it on a group of 40 laptops 1-2 times each week. She hasn't had a single issue with it and loves it.

I haven't spent any time in it. I'm hooked on Ubuntu as of late.

Sure we are going to spend several thousand dollars on new hardware when the current stuff has many years of life left in it.

There are issues with the latest hardware so those with stuff only a couple of years old are right on the back burner.

Its not all Microsoft, hardware and software companies had the beta for long enough.

I just purchaced a labtop w/vista on it last week. Core 2 Duo Processor T7300 and 2 gigs of ram.

Been using it with the beta verison of Premiere Pro CS3 and works great!

Its a good OS that will be far superior to XP "some day". I will be using XP at home on my workstation for the next year anyways.

My new Dell XPS laptop and desktop scream with Vista. It's a little buggy...but it's a hell of a lot faster and has some very cool toys.

The laptop has 2GBs of RAM and the desktop has 4GBs. Step up and buy some RAM man...

It's very pretty and looks like a MAC. But won't work properly with many of my programs, including AVID. I get comm errors all the fucking time (wish I knew what it meant). Every time I right click on a file I have to wait while macromedia flash paper configures, and a slew of other things. And this was a clean install on a vista ready machine.
I'm buying my next desk machine shortly and if they can't give me XP then I'm not buying from them, period.

But it's very pretty.

XP is finally getting stable and happy. If they think I'm switching at this point, they're wrong.

And no, a new OS is not a strong enough motivator to get me to replace 80% of my hardware and peripherals.

*grumble*

I've never had any issues with XP's stability. XP runs faster for me than Vista does, and is far more stable, and doesn't have any driver issues. XP was a huge improvement over Win 98 SE right out of the box. Vista right out of the box sucks donkey shit. After you tweak the fuck out of Vista you'll get a fairly decent experience but it's just not worth all the hassle to me. I'll wait to at least the first service pack before I consider perm. upgrading.

I find it funny, alot of people say vista sucks for this exact reason. But thats not vistas fault.
You should be saying those company suck for not making drivers even though they were given more time then for any other OS.

LOL!!!!!
You dont like it because the BETA wasnt perfect... LOL

Aside from that, the apparent memory hogginess of Visa just isnt true, its very good at memory usage control. Why would you want it to run on 256mb of ram when 2gb are free?
It grabs as much as it can to do what it needs, and as soon as something else is used that needs the ram it gives it up to that program.

I believe its not recommended to have 4 gig when using Vista. 3 is the max and having more can have negative effects.

Vista = Garrrrr- bahj

Hmm i can configure it just well, i gave it a week then outa here. Huge HOG on resources, runs like a bag of shit. MS tries to make it seem faster by running 8 hundred things at bootup which just bogs the shit outa it. 90 % of my hardware is brandnew and there are no compatible drivers yet for most of it. MS should of better preped third party vendors. I wish this question came up 3 months ago when I could remember about 3 gigs worth of issues i had with it . For the average idiot that is truly clueless they will tell you its so great and pretty colors and bla bla bla. It has crashed on me numerouse times and no no no its not the dumb user in this story. 100% pure crap, why do you think they had to market it with such a pretty display case hmmmm..

AutoCAD had a year to upgrade their software and chose not to.

Roland and Epson had a year to write a new driver and chose not to.

HP had a year to write a new driver, and decided not to.

I could keep going. All of your problems with Vista have to do with lazy ass companies that aren't giving you customer support. Don't bitch to Microsoft, bitch to the companies that sold you shit and then stopped support it.

Reading between the lines of recent support email, it would appear that some are blaming Microsoft for not providing enough technical info during beta. Maybe thats true , who knows. Just have to wait for driver updates.

Whats a real pain is that many new laptops come with Vista and it would be nice if you could just plug them into the network and use shared hardware being used by existing XP machines.

Even if they were given nothing until the day Vista was released, they have now had 6 months. Printer drivers aren't the hardest thing in the world, unless the old driver was poorly written or bypassed the operating system to work. Some companies have had problems because their drivers and software were dependant on either tricking Windows XP or abusing modes within the OS to work. Vista is way more strict, and many of them are faced with having to write entirely new drivers from the ground up for free (because the users aren't paying for drivers on older printers).

If you have Vista you can get an easy inexpensive RAM upgrade.

Just go buy a 2 gig USB flash stick. Plug it in to the USB2 port in the back of the computer. It should ask you if you want to use READYBOOST, if not, go to start, help and type readyboost into the search area and it will tell you how to activate it.

Now your 2gig stick is part of your total available RAM... And for $57.32 you just added 2gigs (or as much as you set it to) to your system. Works awesome on laptops! Makes a HUGE difference.

On a home system with 1gig it will also make a big difference.

You need to make sure you get GOOD flash stick to do this. Most actually can't handle readyboost, they arent fast enough and Vista will reject them. I'd recommend patriot xporter xt. I just picked up a 4gb one.

So what's the diffrence in the "Premium" version and the "Ultimate" version? Is it like the diffrence between XP home and XP pro? Or is it just BS?

Mostly the difference is bullshit you will never use.

Cryptography on the HD... etc...

Vista fucking sucks. Don't let the pretty transparencies and eye candy fool you. We installed it on a new Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800 and it runs like a-hole. XP is getting reinstalled on that machine. Also, good luck finding some software and drivers officially supported on Vista. What's worse is 64-bit Vista - forgetta bout it.

the transition between 98 and xp was the saaaame thing. Ive been using it since release and never had problems. Microshit gets on my nerves but vista is simply better than XP imho.

I would get it with a new computer rather than put it on anything old, cause youre more likely to run into problems. Everything since release is being catered for vista. so, wait and I would go with 2 gigs of ram

I'm happy with XP, so there is no need to upgrade currently. It took me a few years to move from 98SE to XP, so I'll probably wander over to Vista once it's a little more established... and there's an actual need to. Bleeding edge is cool if you like to fool around with new things, but if it's for biz (and you're not reviewing software!) then stick to something you know works well for you.
