More like it would be considered an insult on the levels of walking into a church full of the most devout and telling them Jesus wore a tutu and nipple clamps at the Last Supper. Football is religion in the UK and a lot of Europe and the rest of the world.

You serious? You think soccer fans go to a match to watch men in shorts? They go to experience the passion, cheer on their team and watch the most skillful game in the world being played. There's nothing better than seeing your favorite player getting the ball and running by 4 great defenders. Doing tricks to fool them. You simply don't understand the game. So shut the fuck up. Fag.

1. Highly skilled players
2. Tactical
3. Fast paced
4. Few long interruptions
5. Beatiful
6. Exciting

I hate boring sports like american football (why is it called football anyway?) and baseball. Those sports suck and do not excite me at all, and yes I do understand the rules and I have seen full games like the super bowl.

I think its a matter of heritage what you prefeer. Baseball is big in many parts of the world, in the rest, football is king.

Soccer, for me, just doesn't fall into either of those categories.

Maybe if they put land mines out there on the field? Maybe exploding goal posts or even the ability to smash another player with a stick or weapon of some type?

So, soccer fans, can you explain what it is that's so fascinating about the game?

I admit, I do like to watch a good soccer fight in the stands, but they don't have enough of those these days...
If you need it explaining to you. frankly don't bother. Football doesn't need your support or any other whiny motherfucker on here complaining about it.

The fact that you can't see beyond a game you call football, where you use your hands is proof enough that you have gotten sports all wrong.

Half of the world watching the world cup final is proof that you can't see past a game that needs enough commercial breaks so you can get more popcorn, or beer that tastes like piss, selling itself as the worlds coldest beer.

They do it all the time and even English people are like 'wtf'. When an English team goes to play a team in Portugal or Spain you tend to see the flares going off in the crowd and clouds of smoke around the stands where they had gone off before.

so, I have to like something because it's popular?

I was asking about this because I was curious what people like about the sport...you know educating myself? You're right though, it doesn't need my support...David Beckham will still make an obscene amount of money, people will still kill losing goalies and fans will still riot in the stands without my money.

Is the hostility level of all soccer fans when someone asks a simple question? Jesus, he just wanted to know what it is that draws people to the game. He wasn't attacking it.

And American's liking football and baseball has nothing to do with the commercials, in fact, I think it is detrimental to the game. There are times when a pitcher is warmed up and ready to go, but he has to wait another 2 or 3 minutes because of a commercial break. It's ridiculous to me that the games are now at the mercy of the commercials.

Usually because the question often comes from the starting point that another sport if better than football.

american football and baseball all have overweight professionals. this appeals to the fans that watch as most of them are just average joes not in shape at all. they can relate. it's simple. makes them feel more like they're part of the game and the sport. where with soccer you have to be a finely tuned athletic machine. soccer also takes way more skill and tactics than any other sport.

I'm not saying soccer is easy by anymeans, but saying it takes way more skill and tactics than any other sport is ridiculous. Take baseball for example. Scouting reports on a hitter show what he hits well and what he doesn't. The pitcher needs to memorize and conform to that for a successful at bat. Now, he throws a little ball 100 miles an hour, that's very hard to hit. Assuming he actually makes contact, the outfielder needs to run at full speed while tracking this little ball down to make the catch. You know there is skill involved when an average of 300 is good, which means that someone gets safely on base 1 out of just under 4 at bats.

Okay so you are comparing the skill of a baseball player to the skill of a football player. Baseball like any sport takes skill, of course, but lets break it down. I might have oversimplified but here goes..

Baseball:
Batting
Running
Tactical eye
Catching
Turn-based action

Football:
Ball technique (dribbling, running with ball, heading, recieving)
Passing technique
Shooting technique
Defense tactics
Offence tactics
Tackling
Non-stop action based

Overall to me it seems that football demands more of a player than baseball. I mean, a baseball player can be fat and still play in the high leauge.

actually the passion with which I defend the sport I love to play and watch equals the passion with which I enjoy it.

Baseball is a game that can be played by overweight porkies, and so is american football.

The term athlete is applied lightly.

There's a lot more to baseball then just the physical manuevers the players make. There is non stop strategy involved. Having detailed scouting reports on each player, knowing where he hits a majority of the team to shift your fielders, knowing all the pitches he can or can't hit. There is a lot more thinking involved in baseball than you seem to think.

Oh, and only pitchers and first baseman can be overweight, everyone else needs to be able to move too quick to be large, plus you need to bring something to the table. Can't just be fat, need to hit the long ball or throw 100 mph.

The only thing that out-sucks soccer is golf.. both should be piped into prisons to cut down on repeat offenders.. but that would probably violate some law on torture.

Actually, I really do understand why some people do not catch the appeal of watching soccer, because some games can be really dull.

But when one have played soccer then the experience may be a lot different. I have played soccer now since I was 5 years old and I simply keep on loving the game.

I agree with you Sykk but Soccer is called "the beautiful game" for a reason. The players have to be in amazing physical condition (like most sports), and the rule of soccer haven't changed in God knows when.... like, a long fucking time.
