What to do in NYC? Must visits?

On our way to Internext in Hollywood Fl we visit NYC for 5 days.

Ground Zero is on the top of our list.
Next is Empire State Building.

Do you have any suggestions to what we must see?

We will be staying at the Affinia Dumont on Manhatten from july 21th to the 26th.


Any big artists performing in the city in that period?


All inputs are welcome!!!

statue of liberty on a boat is a must see. I was just up there and the lines are crazy so get there early.

also empire state is kinda sucky now that the Rockefeller is open to public... definitely go top of the rocks in favor of empire state... view is better by factor 10!

Shopping for knockoffs and other junk on Canal St. is always fun.

I have lived in Manhattan since 1999....the best HIDDEN GEM of this city is GOVERNORS ISLAND. Definitely head there 1 day. Its absolutely amazing, beautiful and a good time in nice weather.

Hit up the Bronx zoo, and the botanical Gardens

Catch some sun on the Great Lawn in Central Park (Lots of hot girls there too)

Hit up any museum you like, they are all great in summer, fully loaded.

Chelsea Piers and south street seaport.

if you are going out at night, hitup the meatpacking district, Lower East side, The Village. All other areas suck in the summer at night. Everyone heads to the Hamptons or jersey shore Fri-sun ...

You can also do the bus tours...you can hop on hop off at anytime and they take you all over the city....i have done them 2X myself on dates lol

Sounds like a good idea. We did that in London in may, and it worked out good to get an overview of the biggest sites.

According to the movies, NYC is one big crime scene.

i personally nor any of my friends have ever been mugged. NYC is very safe. Crime is at all time lows. I just would not be waling in the alley ways nor will you have to. If you are on the subways, do not flash money or open your wallet. Always keep an eye on your wallet or purse when riding the subways especially when they are crowded.

Other than going to the Zoo or Yankee stadium, i never go above 86th street. There is no need for me to be in Harlem, Spanish Harlem, the bronx....Alphabet City can also be a lil dangerous and maybe scary to you at night since the neigborhod tends to fill up with people on the street that dont look so normal. Just dont walk around like you never seen a skyscraper before and i am sure you will be fine.

Do you know what hotel you are staying at? If you do not have a hotel, look into the 3030 hotel. Good location, easy to get to Grand Central Station and catch a lot of subways, and discounted rates in summer make it s a steal.

Ellis Island impressed me the most (love that scene in The Godfather II when young Vito is quarantained there), never went to Liberty island, figured there wasn't much to see there except for the statue.

Make sure you get your show tickets at the tkts booth on Times Square (46th street/broadway I think), last minute (and 50% off!) is just so much better!

Walk your way down from Central Park to Ground Zero (Trax I can't believe you said to put Ground Zero on the bottom of the list! The photos that have been put up there are amazing), there is so much to see, so may different areas etc.

Make sure you get some restaurant/club recommendations before you go, and don't wind up at Bubba Gump's .

You will not get mugged. Manhattan is the safest place in the country IMHO. I've lived in and/or visited all of the top 20 cities. NY is the safest.

Do visit the World Trade site. Just as you said, the size of the hole is what is most interesting. You should also plan to see the world financial center home of all the major financial companies like AMEX, Merryl Lynch etc, Battery Park City promenade which gives you a great place to take pictures of the Statue of Liberty from, walk down Wall Street, go to The South Street Seaport which is nice for lunch or dinner and you can see the Brooklyn Bridge while you eat... oh and you can also take the ferry to the Statue Of Liberty and Ellis Island.

All of the above is within walking distance so start early and you can do it all before 5pm.

This is all tourist stuff you can find in books, Thomas, if that is the experience you want (statue of liberty, empire state, central park, yankee stadium, broadway show, circle line, etc.). New York also has the best museums (Met, Modern, Guggenheim, Whitney, Natural History) and restaurants in the world (great cheap ones, too, esp for those with Euros).

With regard to broadway shows, Lion King is great, but it is frayed around the edges. There is also Phantom (yes, still running), and Spamalot (must see for python fans). Personally, I recommend Spring Awakening, which just won the Tony for best musical, or In The Heights (off broadway - very new york!) over all those shows.

Depending on your dates, I may have time to guide you. I have been a New Yorker all my life.

Unfortuantely, those dates will probably NOT work for me However, do ping me on ICQ and we'll make sure you've got a full schedule of straight and naughty fun, and lots of good eateries to choose from.

I don't care for strip bars in general. I think they are exploitive of men. Anyway, since you're in midtown, you may as well go Scores. It's a Howard Stern hang out. They have hot girls, a cover charge, and in general it's pricey. I think they get $25 for a lap dance, but I haven't been in there for at least ten years. Prime time is around midnight, so it's good for an apres theater treat, but I have some other ideas for you... much cheaper, much more satisfying, and private, if you catch my drift.
