Firefox or Windows (or both) sucks at reporting memory usage

Computer was running sluggish, Windows Task Manager said Firefox was using 300 megs of memory, said my total memory usage was 984. I closed Firefox (It didn't close clean, so I had to kill it). My total memory when it was closed was 347 megs...

There's 647 megs difference between 984 and 347, not 300.. WTF?

God I hate memory hungry applications.

It's Firefox that sucks. I'm surprised people get so easily influenced by the retarded fanboys and keep using this wannabe browser. Check out this thread --> http://www.albertastars.com/posts.php?forum=4&topic=354 it started as something completely different, but soon swirled into a very informative thread about how useless Firefox is. It has screenshots of Firefox retarded memory usage.

Ok so some people just hate Microsoft and won't use IE then why not use Opera then? If one is insistant on not using IE then I'd use Opera over FF anyday.

I have no problem with using IE but I agree Opera is a great alternative.

Informative according to who? Firefox memory usage is very easy to limit. As someone who has been using web browsers since the times of Mosaic (When it was _THE ONLY_ web browser), I can say with complete confidence that Firefox is the best of what's out there. If something doesn't work or something looks stupid, I can guarantee you it's not Firefox's fault and is more likely the result of ignorance.

LOL! No they never make mistakes. They are gods. Everything they touch is perfection.

Also consdiering that FF users are nothing more than sheep then don't you think they should make it ignorant proof?

Please don't take what I say out of context. I wasn't speaking about Firefox as a group of developers, I was talking about FIREFOX.EXE.

You can control the memory usage. I will leave it at that.

FireFox.exe isnot perfect. If it was they wouldn't be working on FF 3

Enlighten me on how this is done. I may actually use it more often. And no ad-ons either.

Firefox is still leaking memory as it did from the start - pain in the butt.

Development of future versions of firefox is irrelevant. There will never be a web browser that is perfect or complete, the web is always evolving.

I'm not here to hold your hand and show you what to do but a quick http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...x+memory+usage will give you and anyone else who wants to limit how much memory firefox uses more than enough links on which about:config variables can be changed to modify the behavior. Firefox is my daily browser on both Windows and FreeBSD and I have no problems keeping it's memory usage under control.

Get 4 gigs of RAM, then you don't have to worry about it.

Windows will use up all the ram, regardless of how much you have. It's just a matter of time.
