Development of future versions of firefox is irrelevant. There will never be a web browser that is perfect or complete, the web is always evolving.

:config variables can be changed to modify the behavior. Firefox is my daily browser on both Windows and FreeBSD and I have no problems keeping it's memory usage under control.
