Program Owners and Affiliates - How important is it for you?

In my recent effort to contribute more to us, I thought this thread is interesting enough.
My apology in advance if you find it otherwise.

We are half way through 2007 now, I still find sites with an outdated copyright disclaimer.

Here is an example:
Copyright ? 2006 ----- Inc.

As i said, it is nearly end of June already but I still see a lot of programs out there still haven't updated theirs.

IMHO, it is very small issue but could bring bigger effects.

What I mean by this is...
Last week, I was helping my brother in law to get his passport (for emergency use) and had to find institutions which could
help him getting it within 24-48 hours.

I found quite a few sites, however.. upon seeing their copyright disclaimer that wasn't updated, he felt uncomfortable having to send important documents to this place. So he ended up going trhu the Federal building where he had to wait in line for hours.......but he felt safer, that's the bottom line.

My question to you..

When you are selecting an affiliate program to promote, does this little thing become a factor?
When you are buying something on the net, does this little thing become a factor?

If you look at google, yahoo, msn, and youtube, they are all updated.
Why can't we?

How important is it for you? You decide.

I truly hope you find this thread interesting and helpful in some ways.

Thanks,
AK

Makes a difference to me. When it comes to biz research for any purpose or end the bottom of the page is one of the first places I go--just to check the copyright date. The older it is, the less competent I assume they are. And when it goes back further than a year or two, I assume the business is closed or in permanent disrepair.

i guess you can look at it that way too pr0. i am well aware of that news update on our end, thanks for pointing that out tho.
there are way more affiliates programs that have not updated their news, eventhough they updated their copyright disclaimer.

i am not trying to pick any programs out there.. just simply stating something that is pretty small.

i got qutie lot of people asking me on icqs and telling me they never paid attention to this, but that is the point. this is a small matter that can be easily overlooked.

i was sharing this because of my own experience last week.

;)

pff check out the website of toomuchmedia
http://www.toomuchmedia.com/products/

sparta section:

While protecting your website from intruders SPARTA also reduces your server load by using load efficient sessions which allow apache to not require reauthentication of the member on every server request. SPARTA is scheduled to be released in January 2006.

Sparta isn't even supported anymore

TMM doesn't seem to have a copyrights disclaimer at all

Yes, I agree. The purchase-decision is influenced by perceptions. If a site is perceived to be out of date - whether due to a lapsed copyright or other information - our trust is shaken. We question issues such as product-quality and support. Now, granted, a small proportion of people will be put off by a lapsed copyright notice. However, there are two points to be made. Firstly, a lapsed copyright is merely a jumping off point for other considerations. Is the site design dated? Are the customer references too old? In other words, we must not only look at copyright, but consider every aspect of the site in terms of being relevant to current times. Secondly, even though we might lose a small proportion of our business, due to the few people who will be put off by a lapsed copyright, it begs the question : are we willing to lose even a few dollars over the minute's worth of work it takes to update a copyright notice?

Good post - whose theme, if we overlook the main focus of lapsed copyrights, is the importance played by an up to date site in the consumer buying-decision.

Big talk from someone who's affiliate program (http://www.sinnerscash.com/) sign up page is 404.

And you might want to take a look at this: http://www.sinnerscash.com/siteslist.php

Quote:

Our site is being rebuilt from the ground up currently.

But hey, its always fun to bash the big guy.

I think it makes all the difference. I look at the copyright sometimes as both surfer and affiliate, as a program owner, Im amazed to see some sites with 2003 copyright still!

You don't understand what the date is there for.

The copyright date is not intended to be a reliable way to find out the day of the week. There are calendars for that. The copyright date is there to say when the material was actually produced/first released. If it was made in 1994, sticking a C 2007 on it is not only dumb, but will raise some eyebrows.

As hard to believe as it may sound, not the entire world was created in 2007.
