dog owners help!
My oldest dog is sick, he has cushings and I had to switch to a very very lo carb dogfood. He now has the most awful in gas in the world. My whole house smells like a dirty diaper factory. Anyone else have this problem and what did you give the dog to make it go away.

Get some charcoal biscuits. That will help A LOT. Our Rotty had the worst gas ever... Mother Hubbard makes them, but they only come in a mixed bag of treats. they don't make just the charcoal only. Bastards... You can get them at Petsmart. You might find others online.

My dog had the same problem, so I gave him a phonebook and told him to look up a vet, so I could ask someone who knew.

what brand dog food are you giving your dog now? did you just switch today or last few days? if so, did you wean your dog off his old food and mix in the new? Could just be the brand you bought that is upsetting your dog. Since i switch both my dogs to WELLNESS brand, Senior mix, they both have yet to have gas, been 4 months ; )

Yup, switching your dog's diet will do it every time. Change his food and the farts start coming almost instantaneously.
Here's what I've found that helps: Parsley is a natural digestive aid. Buy a container or a few packets of parsley flakes, and when it's feeding time for the dog you sprinkle maybe a teaspoonful of flakes over his food, then add a little warm water and mix it all up for a bit... and then let him eat. It should ease the shock to his system of you switching his diet so suddenly. And while you're waiting for that to work, try keeping the pooch outside more often for a few days, or.... in the basement, or locked in a bathroom with a fan running constantely. :D (kidding about that last part)

Depending on the breed and how you've looked after him at 10 years old his intestines should'nt be in too bad a shape. Have you tried giving him plain cooked cold chicken or corned beef as he might find it easier to digest than a manufactored high protein food. Remmember that in the wild dogs would very little carbohydrate anyway.

I've been adding parsley to my dog's food every day for the past 6 years or so.
He's 17 now, and still hanging in there. And his farts are negligeable. :D

Dude, this may sound too simple, but give the dog an apple a day.
BTW Cut it up. ![]() ![]() |
