How many here have their own office?

I have been thinking about getting an office. It will make me fell like i have an actually job. I am now paying so much fucking taxes, so might as well rite something off in the office like rent and commute.

Also in my house i cant never get anything done! Friends always call me and i go do shit with them all day. When i have an office, i can work and not goof off. What do you think?

ps: got any pics of your office, i want to see them. ;)

i did the work from home thing for about 5 years... and found it easy to get distracted... take longer lunch breaks etc, people would take advantage of the fact I am at home and work for myself.

Now have an office, and although I thought it would bridge the gap between work and home...(work certain hours then go home and actually relax a little) i still spend all my time at the office and hardly any at home now.

But having an office is a step in the right direction, allows you to grow, take on more staff, create a office culture, and have more fun

I have been thinking alot about this myself lately. I have been working at home for years, and there has always been distractions, just shit you cannot avoid. I feel like if I had my own office, I could get up in the morning get ready, and head off to the office, set hours, and when I get home I can keep work off my mind and relax more a whole lot more.

Home office out of a 2nd bedroom (in my 2BR condo) but it's shared between a bedroom & office, so only a fraction of it is legally deductible (I think). I've been in my place for nearly 3 years on a 5 year ARM mortgage. My CPA says the next place should be a 3BR with the 3rd bedroom EXCLUSIVELY for office. But waiting for the 5th year of the 5 year ARM to run out (and see where mortgage rates are then).

i am impartial about offices. ive been aa remote business for the entire run of things, and only a hand ful of times has an employee fucked me. the odds are in my favor and its cheaper. all it takes is a good crew and weed out the scum and you can easily run a good business with good people AND grow

You can get those executive office suites for under $300 a month. I'm sure somebody here has one, maybe they can comment.

I bought an office about a year ago.. got 9 sardines working in the can ;) Got a kitchenette.. small dining table.. bathroom etc.. about 12 minutes walk from home. Not bad really for the size..
Next one after this I hope will be a small office block (2-4 offices) or at least a larger 300sqm +

What's CBD?

I'm talking in the States. They're like shared office facilities basically.

CBD = Central Business District

We have some of those large shared office type buildings. They are still quite expensive though

I'd highly suggest buying if possible. Given all the crap we generally have to do to a building to get it networked it's nice to be able to drill/plaster/knock holes out/paint/air condition etc with abandon.. A couple of years ago I had a real muck around even putting air-conditioning into a rented place because it was drilling a hole through brick and this place was hot as hell. Screw battling to improve someone else's lot. At least if you own it any renovations are a semi investment. Plus it's really good having the business aquire a substantial asset if you ever need funds for expansion because business loans aren't always the easiest to get.

Of course business rentals don't tend to have the turnover residentials do so you'll wait longer between finding leasees if you move out and rent it out. At least thats the case here... it's not exactly silicon valley.

I like to get actual work done around 10pm to 3am... So having an outside office would not be to practical for me.

But I have a friend in the biz who was having productivity problems. Much like you he had friends over all the time. His girlfriend always wanting his time because she is jealous of all of the girls he is viewing all day long...

So he got a small office. Real small... No sign on the door. Nothing. Basically it is the size of 2 bedrooms. He gets twice as much done now. If I call him and ask if he wants to go do something he says, "Naw... I am at the office, I won't be out of here until 7pm."

Before when I called at 10am and asked if he wanted to go waste a day away he would have.... now he stays in and works late... good guy.

I'd love an office, but I live on the fringes of suburbia and there's not much available this side of the city. I don't really fancy driving in traffic for a couple of hours every day just to sit down at a computer in a room by myself...

Maybe I could go in the opposite direction, rent a house 30 mins out country way!
