Bush approval rating now at 26% - lowest rating of any prez in 35 years

26%? Who the fuck are these people?

June 21, 2007 - In 19 months, George W. Bush will leave the White House for the last time. The latest NEWSWEEK Poll suggests that he faces a steep climb if he hopes to coax the country back to his side before he goes. In the new poll, conducted Monday and Tuesday nights, President Bush?s approval rating has reached a record low. Only 26 percent of Americans, just over one in four, approve of the job the 43rd president is doing; while, a record 65 percent disapprove, including nearly a third of Republicans.

The new numbers?a 2 point drop from the last NEWSWEEK Poll at the beginning of May?are statistically unchanged, given the poll?s 4 point margin of error. But the 26 percent rating puts Bush lower than Jimmy Carter, who sunk to his nadir of 28 percent in a Gallup poll in June 1979. In fact, the only president in the last 35 years to score lower than Bush is Richard Nixon. Nixon?s approval rating tumbled to 23 percent in January 1974, seven months before his resignation over the botched Watergate break-in.

The nineteen months couldn't come fast enough!

However, it's rather unfair to judge a sitting president. Didn't president Truman also have a smilar rating when he left office?

ThunderBalls, you forgot to mention how well the Democratic Congress is doing.

14%? Who the fuck are these people?

Poll: Americans Give Democratic Congress All-Time Low Rating

WASHINGTON — Democrats pledged to take Congress in a new direction when it won control in November 2006, but less than six months after taking the reins, Americans aren't pleased with the results, giving lawmakers an all-time low public confidence rating. In a Gallup poll released Thursday, only 14 percent of Americans have a "great deal" or "quite a lot" of confidence in Congress, a Gallup poll reports.

The poll shows an all-time lowest confidence rating and one of the lowest ratings for any institution in 30 years. The lowest confidence rating for Congress was 18 percent during 1991 to 1994. In 1994, the House switched from a Democratic to Republican majority after 40 years of one-party rule.

In the latest poll, the Supreme Court also received an all-time low rating of 34percent while confidence has been at or above 50 percent over the last few decades. Americans rank the most confidence in the military, with the least confidence in HMOs and Congress, when asked about 16 societal institutions.

The poll, conducted June 11-14, interviewed 1,007 national adults over the age of 18. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

The poll gave the National Republican Senatorial Committee plenty of fodder to complain about congressional Democrats. The NRSC issued a statement saying the poll shows Americans don't like the job Democrats are doing.

"In six months, Democrat congressional leadership has managed to bring it all back to where they began — at the lowest congressional confidence levels in Gallup's history — at least we know Democrats can be successful at something," NRSC spokeswoman Rebecca Fisher said in a statement.

And you forgot to mention the dems cannot get anything done due to Bush vetoing or threatening to veto everything they send through, such as the latest stem cell bill. All they can do is sit and wait for the next 19 months.

Anything Bush veto?s reflects his poll ratings not the congress. Not only do Conservatives find the 6 month old democratic congress a failure so do Democrats. If not there numbers would not be so low, it?s the lowest in congressional history. Nancy Pelosi?s hard line ?we will get things done in the first 100 days in congress? resulted in them doing absolutely nothing. And looking at there posted schedule they wont be getting anything else done for the rest of this year. Regardless of what anyone says, both the Republican president and the Democratic congress are simply not doing what the American public wants. Both of them are weak and incapable of getting things done. They have turned a civic duty into a career profession of corruption and abuse of the constitution and turned there backs on the American people for there own legacies.

In Australia former Prime Ministers get an $80k/year salary, a gold pass to travel free anywhere within AU for noncommercial purposes, an office and a full time assistant. I guess that counts as a pension

Why is it unfair to judge a sitting president? It's his administration that has sent our country spiraling down. I think it would be wrong not judge him, that's what has let him do so much fucked up shit.....

You know what's interesting though? Nixon's numbers were lower when he was forced out of office, but today he's remembered almost fondly with watergate being only a small footnote.

Of course at this point, he doesn't give a shit.

He'll continue to do whatever the fuck he wants.. he'll never get re-elected because he'll never run for anything again. He probably doesn't even realize that people hate him so much.

What confuses me is how 1 in 4 people support that man.

Bush is clearly doing very poorly. So far as I'm concerned he's the worst President of my generation.

The impact of a President's policies and laws he (and perhaps someday "she") puts into place takes years to affect the country. A President doesn't walk into office and fixes everything in six months. It's a very time consuming process. While I liked Clinton, it's possible that Bush was forced to deal with a handful of failed polices left over from Clinton.

Also keep in mind that Bush guided us through one of the most difficult periods of our history - 9/11. I thought he did pretty well considering he looks like a donkey.

When Clinton was impeached I was pretty pissed. He got a blow job; That's no one's business except for his wife. He lied under oath but the questions asked should have never been asked and had no bearing on anything; The people who caused this should have been removed from office and perhaps put in prision.

There is dicussion about Bush being impeached. Bush is doing very poorly but this is not grounds for impeachment. Thankfully the President can only remain in office for no more than eight years and he'll be removed from office shortly. Perhaps then we'll see a decent change.

No surprises here, other than who are these people still supporting his ass? Maybe the people who are on his payroll? That makes sense, I figure he must be paying off at least a third of the population otherwise how would he have gotten re-elected?
