I can't stand that fucker at all. But nearly every review I've read about this movie -- even reviews from people who literally *loathe* him -- give it a thumbs up. They claim this movie, unlike his others, completely stands on its own and the content of the movie speaks for itself. Going to watch this tonight and tomorrow and go see it when it comes out (will probably have to drive a state over, don't know if it'll be playing here).

Watch the 60 minutes episode on the medicaid drug bill.

It is the only time a vote has been left open for hours where votes were allowed to be changed for hours so that it will pass. During the "voting session" lead Congressional members went around twisting the arms of nays until they voted yea.

Those writers and arm twisters went on to leave within months of the bills passing to become millionaires working for the drug companies lobbying for the bill to pass.

And what did the bill do? Force Medicaid to except the price requested for prescription drugs from the companies. They no longer could accept the lowest bid offers anymore.

Why? Who fucking knows but it is costing us BILLIONS a year in higher costs!

Just finished the movie. Two words: Fucking Fantastic.

Finally a Moore movie that I enjoyed. The content of the movie really speaks for itself… it is truly a brilliant movie in every sense of the word and I will definitely go see it at the theater when it comes out as well.

?I don?t agree with the copyright laws and I don?t have a problem with people downloading the movie and sharing it with people,? said Moore when asked about pirating. ?I make these books and movies and TV shows because I want things to change, so the more people that get to see them the better, so I?m happy when that happens. I think information and art, ideas should be shared.?
Michael Moore's own words.

And then again, this is going to be a big hit.
Huge drama there.

Can I make a huge prediction?

America's eventual downfall will come about because of corporate greed and the inability of Government to stop it from ruining the nation as a whole.

not just that, the USA doesn't think socially at all.
their idea of replicating the EU in the america is a joke.
basically they want to pay no taxes, but leave the borders closed, and the other countries needs to agree with their demands.
it's fucking bullshit i must say.
just take some smaller unions like let's say Union of South America.
That is fair, compare with ALCA and you will see.
I'm not hating on the USA or anything, I love it, it's just that they fail to see that they need to share a little to grow more.

In general, private enterprise can do whatever the government can do.. better and cheaper. Despite what Moore says, the free enterprise system works.. well.

This can be applied to health care, social security, whatever.

The state I used to live in RI, is a prime example. Illegal aliens get platinum health coverage, average taxpaying families get none. The state there tries to muscle in on every game in town, and the taxes and corruption are sky high. It is unliveable.

So, I don't believe in large government.

Americans need to take responsibility for their own health care and stop smoking, eat better, exercise, and lose weight. That would make us healthier than all the insurance in the world.

Last, I don't trust Michael Moore to give an honest assessment, because his other movies have had major distortions.

That said, I would like to see the US government clamp down on insurance companies and reduce the payment denials which are so devastating to patients. We needs ways to clarify and enforce that when you have insurance, it is valid and it will be honored.

I hear you.
He is too brief, he doesn't cover 'everything' just what he wants people to believe.
But he has a point there. I hope people take this as a constructive criticism.

Things that are for the betterment of all humanity -- and not just corporations -- should not fall under the category of "free enterprise". Let?s say some corporation scientists manage to come up with a cure for cancer... do you honestly believe that it's ok for that corporation to decide who gets to live and die based on who can pay for the treatment? Or should the government step in, take the cure, and distribute it to the masses for free?

The answer is obvious.

For the most part I agree. For just about anything the government can do they could hire a company who could do it better for less because the government has no bottom line and doesn't have to worry about waste. However exercise and proper diet are only a small part of the big story. Certainly eating well and being healthy overall is good and if the nation as a whole did so it would lower overall medical costs, but you can eat well and be in perfect shape and that doesn't help you if you happen to step in a whole in ground, twist and break your ankle (actually happened to a friend of mine). If you don't have health insurance, you are in for a pretty big medical bill. Should people take responsibility for themselves? Sure, but there are times and situations that don't apply. For example. Lets say you get laid off from work and have no health insurance, you can't afford to buy it on your own because you have no job. You get a new job, but it is going to be 90 days until you get health insurance and then you break your ankle. You're fucked.

There are ways for the government to provide blanket coverage for everyone, they just have to actually get past their own partisan crap and do it. In a way we already have it. A person can go into an emergency room and get treated and then never pay the bill and eventually the hospital will eat it and the tax payers will pay for it. So we have coverage, we just choose to wait until people are very sick or hurt and take the most expensive route possible to solve their problem.

Some numbers....

The total cost of health care for ALL Americans under Kaiser Permanente:
$578,622,000,000

Total premiums and prescription drugs payments made in America in 2003,
$1.2 Trillion...

In other words, we already pay more than it would cost to give everyone in America health insurance!

And we also spend 1/4 a billion every year we have been in Iraq.

So what the fuck is going on?

Great movie. I don't know why people hate Michael Moore so much. Haters say things like he's an ugly slob, and that maybe true, but what does that have to do with the messages in his movies? Also, they say he lies, but they never have proof of such lies. I just don't understand why anyone would hate Michael Moore unless they are anti- gun control, pro-Bush and pro-our fucked up Health Care system.

I?ve seen all of his movies (even Canadian Bacon) and I have not really liked one of them ? until now. Most of his movies are full of half-truths and utter spin. This movie had almost none of that in it. Sure, a couple parts were pretty ?gamey? but it was droves better than any other movie of his because the content of the movie really speaks for itself; it doesn?t need any spin. Healthcare is an issue that transverses party lines. It?s an issue that we ALL have to deal with at one time or another.

I agree that privatization in certain areas work to an extent. The problem is when these private companies get in with the cronies in Washington and have free reign to do what they want, when they want. Take Haliburton for example. They bill the US government whatever the hell they want, and the government pays it with no questions asked. They don't bid for contracts and they have no one to hold them accountable. That's as bad as anything that is government run. Will privatizing health care just turn into a way of having private insurance companies come in and rape the American taxpayers with no oversight?

I agree that Americans need to take better care of themselves. But there are also a lot of issues that the country needs to step in and reform. There are people who can't get health coverage because they have diabetes or other pre-existing conditions. And what about the insurance companies that just decide they don't want to pay for something anymore. Most Americans can't afford to fight the insurance companies in court. Or even doctors and hospitals who look at your insurance card, notice you have good insurance, and decide they will charge you for a ton of extra shit (take a look at an itemized hospital bill one time when you have to stay a few days, it's scary). My insurance company just paid $34 for a 1 ounce cup of Maalox that I was given at the hopsital.

The system now is fucked. Doctors fuck insurance companies, who in turn fuck us. I don't know if socializing medicine is what this country needs, but I do know that we SHOULD be taking care of the people in this country who can't afford health care. It is embarrasing that we have people dying because they won't go to the doctor because of the price. I'm not a fan of the cost to the taxpayers for something like this, but I think if we stop funding bullshit wars and wasting money in other areas, we could do this easily.

And another area I have a problem with when it comes to privatization is the health insurance dictating to the doctor what they can and can't do. My mother was in the hospital for a major ankle surgery. The doctor said she'd need to stay for 4 days to ensure that no infection occured with the skin graft. The insurance only wanted to pay for 2.

So is she supposed to listen to her doctor, or health insurance company? Should a doctors decisions be made on what he feels an insurance company will and won't pay?
