I do both, can't really say what is best. If you concentrate on mostly SE traffic to your blog, linking directly to the tour might work better but if you try and build bookmarkers and traffic, gallery would be better IMO

Good answer. Something else you could do is slap on some sample pics on HTML with links to the paysite and have an inbetween thing. You'd have more control of the traffic than sending to the FHG and you'd still get a shot at pleasing your bookmarkers.

We send directly to a video gallery style tour and it is converting quite well for us and about 50% better than we were doing sending it to our other traditional tour - which even though it is so 1998 still converts consistently so we continue to measure against it as a benchmark.

Link to the gallery. When a hit goes out to a tour from a thumb or something, I think surfers expect to see free content. Linking a thumb to a tour is a "blind link" in my opinion.

Keep linking to free content and your numbers to a sponsor may be less, but your rations will improve and you might just pick up some more bookmarkers because we tread lightly on the surfer.

That's my 2 cent.

How are your ratios? When we developed the OCCash RSS we did all links to tours from thumbs and stuff. The ratios were so bad that I thought something was wrong for a minute, so we backed out of that and started douing links to embeded videos with non-blind text links and found the ratios improved dramaticly.

Ratios will ALWAYS improve in the sponsor's stats back-end when you transit the surfer via a gallery. The question is, will the ratio of surfers hitting your page to joining the sponsor really improve?

It's not rocket science. Cleaner links = better conv. ratio, blind links = worse ratio. Your not making any more money off the same traffic. Just a perfect example how meaningless a conversion ratio is.

I mix it up and do both. I think it's best to offer the reader a mix. Sime may be taken in by a fancy gallery whereas some may be wowed by a tour.

It's a simple equation: Use embeded video for your blogs free content and link them to the tour with some solid text links that are not blind. That way, even if they are not impressed with the free content you gave them they are still clicking around on your blog and you have another chance for a sale!

Yeppers. Depends what type of blog you have, and what type of sites you're promoting. As usual it takes some thought and tinkering.

I think if you have a good blog with embeded vids, pics, great text, then you should have the surfer ready right there to go to the tour. The tour is specifically desiged to convert sales, that's where your programs hard work in creating a kickass tour comes in.

If you're just using feeds, then yeah, a gallery is going to be useful. Though I still tend to think the less the surfer has to click around the better. If you're going to link to a gallery, make sure it's a good one that clicks through in all the right places as that extra step is where you could lose a sale.

As usual, quality and thinking like your customer (the surfer) is all important!
