What are your thoughts on PORN ADDICTION?

Personally, I don't understand how the words "porn" and "addiction" can be used side by side.

I've seen addictions. I've lost family, friends, and teachers over addictions....And they all had to do with foreign substances being willingly introduced into their bodies.

I've yet to hear about somebody going into a seizure due to not getting his porn fix for 24 hours.

What are your thoughts?

Ill be honest, I don't think I have had a wank over any porn for years.

I cant imagine becoming addicted to it....

And, like you, I can become addicted to just about anything.

Not as bad as some other addictions. Even being addicted to food is worse for you. Ever see those 700+ lbs fat asses that can't controll what they eat? You know if we only banned food these people could be saved.

Addictions that involve doing things other than drugs are a result of simply having nothing better to do.

Addiction is a word we overuse in society today. If someone buys too many shoes, they have a shopping addiction, if they're fat, they have an eating addiction and on and on. It's being used more and more as an excuse for people not having self control.

As for so-called porn addiction, I'm sure there are people who love porn way too much. But I don't consider it a bad thing. No more than a guy who watches too much sports on TV or the woman who can't get enough soap operas. Porn is just a form of entertainment.

Real addictions are having a chemical dependency to a drug. It's people who are selling their bodies for one hit. It's not someone who likes looking at boobs. It makes me sick when someone compares their "porn addiction" to real addictions that take lives.

Don't see how it's a problem. Does it cause health problems? People watch TV all fucking day long, what does it matter what they are watching, in the end it's the same fucking thing whether you spent all day watching news and sports or porn.

Its an excuse, its saying I have no power over this. Its bullshit, no one ever slit some old ladies throat to get the next Jenna dvd.
A husband jerks off to porn upsets the wife, now its easier to blame porn than to say maybe there is a problem in our bedroom we should sit down and talk about.

honestly - addictions can be found anywhere. One doesn't fully understand this concept unless touched by such a disease. Yes it is hard to understand, but i think in this case you are attempting to bend the spoon and not yourself. It is not something you need to concern yourself with, afterall, obecity is also an addiction, and i don't see maccas shutting shop - just bullshitting more.

it's pure bullshit, but without it X X X Church and others wouldn't really have anything to base their business on. I am sure there are a small % of guys out there that meet the criteria for an addiction in the way they deal with porn. Sex isn't like drugs, alcohol, gambling - it's a basic essential human need we are all born with like eating and sleeping, whether it's masturbation or with a partner. To call sex an addiction is a joke, there are lots of medical studies that say there are significant physical and mental problems caused by abstinence. Look what forced abstinence does to priests - i don't think most priests who go into the priesthood do so with homosexuality or pedophilia in their genetics - the forced abstinence is what does it, people are SEXUAL, sadly young boys are the most convenient and practical 'partners' for a priest.

People with major character flaws and lack of self confidence quite often fixiate on something that they perceive as being an escape. Drugs, booze, gambling, porn, God, it's all the same and it all stems from the same root.

The problem is people point to the symptoms, often over consumption , as if they've pinpointed the source of the "disease". Oh yes, we're told it's a disease. Addicted to drugs? No problem! Do the 12 steps and replace the problem with God and meetings.

Nobody wants to look within themselves for their problems. It's much easier to hang a trendy name on your "addiction" and continue the cycle.

Two statements that hit it.

People are addicted to sex, sex releases a drug into our brains that induce a feeling of happiness. That's the addictive element. Some people are hooked on it and need a fix 5 times a day, some are not and do not understand those who are addicted.

Porn is the entertainment that can stimulate the brain to better sex. The brain is the biggest sex organ.

I don't think its an addiction at all. However I strongly believe that the so called "addicts" have a type of obsessive compulsive disorder.

Been in the adult biz for almost four decades and until I ended up living in the US for a while, I never heard of "porn addition"

Smells like another "disease" generated by whoever for whatever purpose, but... there is bound to be *someone* who is possibly "addicted" to an obsessive level, so hell knows...

Presumably an individual who manages to waste most of his time eg on the net looking at crap and maxing out his cards on porn sites, may have a "little problem" - sounds more like a character deficiency or something similar..

seems like those that become addicted to it are prone to addiction in general, if it wasn't online pornography, it'd be tying their shoelaces repeatedly.

I agree think the term 'addiction' is used way too loosely these days similar to 'A.D.D' with kids etc. It almost feels at times that a bunch of scientists in lab coats get together and concoct new addictions, symptons, mental conditions and so on and convince the general public this is a real medical condition that is detrimental to their health.

But hey...we live in a society that preys on people's fears

I'm sure everyone has stories, but I know people that I can safely say are addicted to pornography. These are people who if they have only $10 and it is a toss up between eating dinner that night or renting a couple flicks at the local smut shop, well... they're not eating.

I believe there's a very fine line between a "fan of porn" and an addict. It's a slippery slope for some.

if you neglect important things in your life because you want to watch porn, than it's an addiction...it has nothing to do with money...something that is free can mess up your life.

I'd like to hear from the european (other then Paul) community on this matter... Do you think that the generally close minded view of sex in america and it's obsession with putting "labels" on anything it fears as the real culprit here or am I way off base?

It seems to me that the combination of religious fanaticism and social propoganda have caused people to develop mental illnesses from guilt about their sex drive.

"If you want alot of sex or have different sexual taste you are a freak and thus socially unacceptable".

"Lust is a sin! You will go to hell!"

"How dare you think sexual thoughts about my daughter! She is 18 and innocent! So what if she wears short little skirts and tights shirts with low cut necks! You are a bad man!"

"Gays are the abomination of the earth and God sent aids to punish them!"

And on and on....

An addiction is a bad thing, not matter what it is you're addicted to. So any time you want someone else to think that something you do is bad, call it an addiction.

By the way, I have a work addiction.

My thoughts on porn addiction?

I'm for it!

No, seriously, it's complete bullshit. It's a bogus concept invented by hysterical anti-porn crusaders in order to sensationalize their cause and to parasite some of the media attention that would otherwise go to real problems involving real addictions.

Well, my opinions:

First, I remember someone told me on GFY a while back that porn addicts already know how to get all of their shit for free, so they probably visit TGPs a lot and maybe don't pay for it as much

As far as addictions go, I do believe that people can have a legitimate porn addiction. There's people who spend hours and hours each day just searching porn - it disrupts their social lives sometimes and can have other negative impacts: impacts on work, relationships and productivity.

It's not something you can blame on the industry either - it's really just the individual's fault for being irresponsible with their time. Professional treatment is recommended for people who are addicted.

Just ask Dr. Drew Pinsky - he's the man, he knows his shit.

The Wikipedia entry for Sexual Addiction provides interesting perspectives and information, as well as explains why it is not recognized as an addiction or mental illnes by many Psychological institutions or medical boards.

The viewer addicted to jerking off to porn is the guy we live off. His tastes are refined and free TGP porn is not going to satisfy his needs. It's via the TGP that he becomes addicted to jerking off to the specific porn that stimulates him.

Porn has always been available and very low priced or even free. We make our living out of supplying a version of it that appeals to one strata of aficionado. The casual browser will not buy enough to fund a 25 billion dollar industry.

Amazing how little some people know about the people they are trying to sell to.

It seems to me that the combination of religious fanaticism and social propoganda have caused people to develop mental illnesses from guilt about their sex drive.
Got little doubt there is an element of this - as mentioned in a post above, I'd never heard of "porn addiction" until we lived in the US for a while (previously been in "adult" for well over 30 years in Europe).

It's very hard to pin down - everyone is different, but generally there is... dunno the right word, a kind of naivety and (don't laugh) "innocence" with folks. This is not in a derogatory way - it can be totally refreshing and appealing. Example (tho it's only my ), many US people are very open and trusting and you can "read" them - basically they are honest. Some of the nicest folks I've ever met are from the US.

The flip side is.. whatever it is, naivety or otherwise - it's very clear they can be susceptible to "influences". These can be good or bad and "labels" always were used to simplify whatever, whether there was any foundation for them can be another matter.

Sure, can see very clearly how eg religious or "political" (in all it's forms, not just in the pure sense), can influence folks who have this "naivety" and how, to take it to a silly level, individuals can end up wasting their time on porn as a fulfiller of something usually missing in their lives. It's the same with religion and politics at that level. Example... What sane person judges who will be the next govt representative based on bullshit about abortion or whatever?? The "obsession" becomes a "belief" and there are no end of "labels" introduced to keep that simple.

Sure there is going to be a group of people who are affected by "porn" and, hence, the label "porn addiction". No matter what is thrown their way, - they will be addicted to whatever - video games, drugs (very meaningful when you look at this "naivety" and the rate of drug consumption in the US), alcohol, religion, money, political concepts et al. Who knows the underlying source, but smells like something missing in a few lives?

Porn has always been available and very low priced or even free. We make our living out of supplying a version of it that appeals to one strata of aficionado. The casual browser will not buy enough to fund a 25 billion dollar industry.

Amazing how little some people know about the people they are trying to sell to.

Hey Paul.....Do you actually believe all the shit you post or do you do it just to see how stupid other people are?

And, like you, I can become addicted to just about anything.
Either you suck at thinking or you shouldn't be using the term honest so lightly

Just another way for religious folks to avoid taking responsibility for their own actions.
