Some SAD SHIT: Email scams hit World of Warcraft

http://notadiary.typepad.com/mysticw...or_a_sack.html
I actually saw this happen this morning... Some dude sent a sack of flour for 88g COD. I searched around a bit and found the blog entry above. G ood thing I didn't fall for that scam. Quick way to fleece fellow players using a fake account, send to another account and unload to IGE.com or other places that buy game gold. Scumbags.

Someone is mailing items in game that are virtually worth nothing. I'm guessing there's a COD option for the receiver to pay for the item. The "scammer" is hoping someone will be stupid enough to pay for the item. Once the item is paid for the "scammer" is going to sell the gold via ige.com.

Did I win?

Doesn't that game require a monthly membership? I imagine there aren't too many 14yr old's playing it.

The first time I encountered this was around November 2005 on the Skullcrusher server. Was actually quite novel.

I think walmart etc sells "gamecards" you can use to pay for the monthly fee. So all the kids can use their allowance to buy the gamecards at a local store instead of trying to get mommy's CC.

Old news, that scam has been going around for ages.

The latest one is where they email you pretending to be an NPC from Light's Hope Chapel in Eastern Plaguelands and send you a letter about the war on the Scarlet Crusade.

The letter is a COD package. Pretty good scam.

Fuck if I know......I'm not a geek.

I guess there are no 14 year olds playing XBox Live either.

Yep. The variant I got was the Argent Dawn one. Gotta admit, pretty creative. What's next? 419-type scams in WOW?

Agreed -- this is as old as WoW itself. In fact, it's from another MMO.

I'm sure people would try to scam others out of post counts on here, if there was a way to transfer it
