:thumbsup yep, me too...

I don't think you did anything wrong... IMO it's far better to teach them that sort of responsiblity early before they start playing around with those things with their friends in secret... Get in early before they get a skewed "cool" viewpoint.

Giving your kid a dull knife is a pretty stupid thing to do, unless you are going to have a man to man sharpening session.

That will be one corner off your tote n' chip card!

Keep believing it dude.

I'm not pussywhipped. I ramble ... sure... but I'm not pussywhipped :) hehe

I WAS pussywhipped ... when I was married. But I soon fucking sorted that and left the bitch.

I'd still be single if life with a woman always meant pussywhipped :)

i got to have my own .22 at 10 - under dad's supervison.

owned SEVERAL knives by that point.

unless the kid is a moron he can handle it. taking a knife away from him if he shows responsibility at that age in my mind would be a bad parent.

:2 cents:

I got my first pocket knife at 8. Still have it.

I think you did the right thing. I had a swiss army knife by that age and BB guns by 11 -12.

Moms are always over protective.

I just had a conversation with my wife about this.

She grew up in Humbolt County, CA on a farm and I grew up in Brooklyn in the street. I always figured 9 or 10 was the right age - she said she was 10 when her dad gave her a pocket knife and a bb gun. I was about the same age.

The talk you had with your boy and laying out guidelines was good parenting obviously. It's all about responsibility ... and it's a big one for a boy to learn.

Sounds like your wife is ok with it after the fact but that's definitely a mutual parenting decision, IMHO.

Your talk with him was the key. You were teaching him.. not leaving him to his own devices. Props to you. Did the same with my boy.

Dude.. by your wife a gift..

No problem a 10 year old kid having a dulled pocket knife, especially after such a careful talk by you

I'd say you're in the right here.. just a protective mother

common sense! :thumbsup
