According to Dictionary.com standard is defined as: Something, such as a practice or a product, that is widely recognized or employed, especially because of its excellence.
IE is widely employed, roughly 90% I believe, thus making it the standard setter for browsers.

IE and Windows are the standard.

Use WMV, I believe even Macs can play them now.

Or don't, cause after all, you wouldn't want to lose SpaceDogAces biz!

LOLOLOL

Funny thread. Take it to slashdot dumbass, we're a little more pragmatic here.

Cheers,

For browsers, maybe. Browsers are built to browse the web. The web has a completely different set of standards (HTML, JavaScript, etc) that are NOT defined by the browser. They are adhered to by the browser. The browser cannot render an HTML page properly if it does not conform to the HTML standard. If a browser does not properly conform to the existing protocol, does that mean the protocol is changed to fit the browser because the browser is popular? No.

IE may set standards for other browsers on things such as browser features, interface, etc. but that has nothing to do with what I've said.

Again, no matter how you look at it, a web browser is a tool for browsing the web. Just because more people use a given browser does not change the browser's function and it does not change the underlying technology that the browser must conform to in order to be useful.

If by "pragmatic" you mean "we like to stick our tongues out and call peoples names", then I would have to agree.

5-10 min for good quality downloading is too big. For example we have 3.0-3.5 mb per 1 min mpg, nastydollars sites 5 mb per 1 min, so 10 min will be 30-50 mb or you need to reduce quality. I don't tell here about 56 kb streaming, just mpg downloading.
Therefore we cut movie to 1.5 - 3 min. Also I absolutelly agree with SexyMarie :

"to keep them in one 'piece of action' and try not to divide them (and try to have this in mind while recording them LOL). But sometimes it doesn't work so I cut them movie into smaller pieces (based on scenes) so it is under 15MB or something."

Good point, there are different approachs to streaming video and downloaded video. I've found that 30-60 secs for downloaded clips work well and 3-10 minutes clips for streaming in member's areas. Can't say anything about movie galleries, have never done any.

If you dont know the answers to these questions, run an mgp for a few years or deal with movies on a daily basis for a long time before starting a paysite
