UK: Drivers may be banned from smoking at the wheel

Quote:
...A smoking ban for drivers is to be considered by the Department of Health
in a bid to cut the number of deaths from crashes.

Road safety officers from councils around the country are to meet transport
officials to discuss a ban on smoking while at the wheel. A similar ban on
using a mobile phone while driving is already in place....

Technically, by your definition, not allowing people to drink and drive is also taking away people's freedom.

Music is also a huge distraction. I hope they ban radios.

Also, eating and drinking while driving. Not alcohol, drinking anything. Both distractions.

Kids are a magnificent distraction while driving. Ban kids.

That is one of the worst comparisons I've seen. Can you stretch it anymore?

It's an instance of telling someone they're not allowed to do something while they drive because of the safety risks involved. If that's taking away someone's freedom, then so is telling them not to drink and drive. So instead of being fine with both, I'm fine getting rid of both. I'm sick of being cut off by dumb assholes smoking while talking on a cell phone and driving like shit.

AMEN! Kids are the #1 distraction in cars. Make it so you have a sound proof compartment for them and throw their asses in there or ban them from the car period. I like the UK's thought process when it comes to this!

Another big distraction is listening to music. Ban the radio/cd players/ipods from the car period, listening to music will reduce your ability to focus on the road, so you have to ban them.

The color of cars can also be distracting, reds especially. The color red can also make you feel angrier, thus increasing road rage. They need to make a law ASAP to make every color of car gray to prevent this.

It's kind of different when there's something actually in your hand, and you're supposed to be using your hands to drive.

I don't know anyone that drives with 2 hands. Smoke or not.

Kids screaming, loud music, fumbling over fast food... far more distracting then puffing a cigarette that comes quite natural for a smoker.

We can't stop there though. Anything that takes away from your driving ability must be eliminated. No music period, no vibrant colors on cars, no loud distractions from children.

We must ban all music from cars, all cell phones, all kids, no eating in the car, no drinking in the car, and definitely make sure to ban every color but gray on cars.

Also, living leads to eventual death, so we should ban that too.

A lot of people turn with two hands, though, and in the event of a dangerous situation, you'd probably use two hands, too. Also, if you drive standard, that could mean one hand on the wheel, holding a cigarette. You can't tell me that's just as safe.

Just because something CAN happen does not mean it WILL. Most things that are regulated should not be. It is just a way for another business or person to profit. Nothing to do with protection of people.

Do you think the government (any government) REALLY cares about your safety?

Ok, but if they spend it on enforcing the regulations, it doesn't go into their pockets, that doesn't benefit them. Their goal isn't to just tax as much as possible in the hopes that their citizens have less, that's dumb to say.

How can you guys compare driving with something in your hand, to talking to people while you drive?

You continue to miss the GOD DAMN point. It is a STUPID FUCKING THING to regulate. It's like regulating the color of pant on the wall or how hard rain can fall. How about regulating how loud someone can fart, or better yet, how bad it can smell?

It's fucking STUPID.

If you don't understand there are ulterior motives brought on to benefit others, there's not much more to explain to you. You don?t need to know WHO. I'm sure you believe that everything the Government does is right. ALWAYS REMEMBER the government is made up by PEOPLE. They are not magically made into superior beings or geniuses because they work in the government.

If you agree with this type of regulations, I can only hope you are under the legal voting age where ever you live.

How can you compare the color of pants and regulating farts to stopping people holding shit while they drive? Maybe YOU are MISSING the GOD damn POINT.

You can't say a single thing without exaggerating. Of course the government's not always right, but you have yet to tell me one person who benefits financially from this regulation, and saying "OMG ITS THE GOVERNMENT SO THEY'RE CONTROLLING YOU AND TAKING YOUR MONEY SOMEHOW I DON'T NEED TO HAVE ANY IDEA WHO OR HOW IN THIS CASE BUT THEY JUST DO AND IF YOU AREN'T WILLING TO ACCEPT THAT YOU MUST THINK THEY'RE PERFECT" is pointless.

Do you think that individual freedoms are eliminated all at once? No, they are taken a little bit at a time because JACKASSES like you say "Oh, since I don't ______ , sure, let's get rid of it." You miss out on the basic points of logic and common sense. Now knowing your intellect, there is NO WAY a single hit will EVER be sent to your program.

You are a FUCKING TOOL missing out on the larger impact. The world is full of idiots, and you are one of them. You add to the problem, not the solution.

In case you missed it,

YOU ARE A FUCKING TOOL.

I agree with all of the above and would like to add that I've found myself being distracted by hot women drivers. they should ban women from the roads as well.

Actually thinking about anything other than the road while driving is a major distraction. Hey there's no getting around it......they need to lobotomize all UK drivers

This might come as a revelation to you but when a smoker needs to use both hands at the same time he or she will often leave the cigarette in his or her mouth for short periods of time. I kid you not. I've actually seen it done with my own eyes.

I believe the mobile phone law only applies if you cause an accident or get pulled over. They can't just pull you over for being on the phone
