To the unknown man:
I hope you make it.
I have to share this story with you guys, because even with all my years as a paramedic I have never had anything like this happen to me. My girlfriend and I were coming home from dinner and drinks with some friends last night around midnight. We decided to go out because that day we had burried a family member and we needed to blow off some steam. On our way home we are sitting at a stop light, just before getting on the expressway. We were the only ones there, just us and this guy on a motorcycle. I look at my girlfriend and say, something isn't right with this guy. He was heavy breathing like mad, shoulders were visibly moving up and down. Immediately after I said this, the guy just collapses and falls off his bike. My girlfriend (who works in a hostpital) and I jumped out of the truck. While I called 911 she looked at the man. I said to him "You will be ok!" he then took his last breath I believe. He then stopped breathing and then lost his pulse. While my girlfriend started CPR I picked the bike up off the guy so it did not do further damage to his leg. Then a nurse shows up and helps us with CPR until the fire department showed up. It looked like they paramedics had the man breathing again before they left and went to the ER. Sorry about posting this, I guess I just needed to get this out. I was a paramedic for many years and this is the first time I have had anything happen to me outside the job. It has been about 8 years since I have even had to do CPR on someone. The police said the man was 48 years old. Others on the scene said they saw the man at the gas station a few minutes earlier in some sort of a daze. He drove off and that is when he was at the light and we came up behind him. It looks like he was having a heart attack. We had to sit there for 2 1/2 hours while the traffic investigation team showed up and took pictures and such as well. So to this man, I hope you made it , but if not may you rest in peace. AJ

Man, I hope you saved his life. Otherwise get a lawyer cause you could be sued on the basis of the Good Samaritan law not applying to you.

The detective called us today and said the gentleman didnt make it. He died at the hospital and that he had a triple bypass about 1 1/2 years earlier. The office said that the family knew he was on borrowed time because he did not take care of himself after the surgery.
The good samartian law will cover bystanders usually that try to help out within the limit of the abilities. My girlfriend is trained in CPR (because she works in pre-surgical at a hospital) and I was certified in CPR as a paramedic. I think this would apply more to the nurse who actually showed up than us, but the officer said the woman was just thankful someone stopped. This road is not a well lit road and not traveled all that much. The guy could have just laid there for an hour or so if someone wasn't behind him. Sorry to bore you guys with it, just not something that happens everyday. AJ
