To the unknown man:

I hope you make it.

I have to share this story with you guys, because even with all my years as a paramedic I have never had anything like this happen to me. My girlfriend and I were coming home from dinner and drinks with some friends last night around midnight. We decided to go out because that day we had burried a family member and we needed to blow off some steam.

On our way home we are sitting at a stop light, just before getting on the expressway. We were the only ones there, just us and this guy on a motorcycle.

I look at my girlfriend and say, something isn't right with this guy. He was heavy breathing like mad, shoulders were visibly moving up and down. Immediately after I said this, the guy just collapses and falls off his bike.

My girlfriend (who works in a hostpital) and I jumped out of the truck. While I called 911 she looked at the man. I said to him "You will be ok!" he then took his last breath I believe. He then stopped breathing and then lost his pulse. While my girlfriend started CPR I picked the bike up off the guy so it did not do further damage to his leg. Then a nurse shows up and helps us with CPR until the fire department showed up. It looked like they paramedics had the man breathing again before they left and went to the ER.

Sorry about posting this, I guess I just needed to get this out. I was a paramedic for many years and this is the first time I have had anything happen to me outside the job. It has been about 8 years since I have even had to do CPR on someone.

The police said the man was 48 years old. Others on the scene said they saw the man at the gas station a few minutes earlier in some sort of a daze. He drove off and that is when he was at the light and we came up behind him. It looks like he was having a heart attack. We had to sit there for 2 1/2 hours while the traffic investigation team showed up and took pictures and such as well.

So to this man, I hope you made it , but if not may you rest in peace.

AJ
