A world of difference. I have heard stories of rain causing telephone lines to cause connectivity to degrade, causing DSL to lose link.

(edit: I'm talking about the telephone lines at your home)

the problem can happen on both cable and DSL, but on cable I feel you have more of a shot of fixing the problem yourself. Replace every connector, grounding block, and splitter that is outside. Also, if you know where your tap is make sure the last tech who serviced it put the cover back on correctly.

I just finally got a higher level tech on the phone and as soon as I said rain and connectivity issue he say "oh, ok, someone will be out tomorrow"...LOL

Had that problem with DSL. My line would cut pretty much every time it was raining and it would be like a intermittent connection. We tried pretty much everything until a guy came and he changed the modem, and then it started working again without any interruptions. My guess is that there was an electricity problem with the MDM.

Yes I used to and it absolutely means there is water in the lines themselves underground. Definately should open a service ticket so they are aware of the issue. Trust me they will want it fixed asap.

Yep, every time it rains here my dsl goes out until the lines get dry. I've reported the problem repeatedly but nothing gets done about it... fucking assholes. In fact all my neighbors who have dsl have the SAME problem, they have reported it, yet they don't give a flying fuck. Wish I could get cable here.

When I lived in the province, net and power would go down when it rained. Usually a line got ripped from a coconut tree

Standard phone lines suck in the rain. I used to live in bum-fuck North Idaho and every Spring the buried lines would get shitty and full of static when the ground stated to thaw out. Then when Summer came around and things dried out they would be fine again.

Excuse me, but cable lines are not a lot different than DSL (telephone) lines. Unless the cable is fiber optic it is just copper with plastic wrapped around it, subjected to the same elements.

Back in the mid to late 90s, before I ever had dsl, I had problems with my phone line. Every month or two after a big rain, the phone would go dead, sometimes for a whole day. Occasionally, I could still get a dial tone, but the line sounded horrible. After bitching and cussing for two or three years, they finally came out and dug them up. They said the lines were "perforated" and water was getting in.

I had the same issue for almost 2 years. Cable guy after cable guy came out replace this and that connector, none of them ever fixed it.

The last guy they sent out looked like a classic cable guy. Pants falling down, butt crack showing, the whole 9 yards.

I said to myself, this dumb motherfucker aint gonna fix shit. I was wrong. He whipped out some sort of meter with an antennae on it and found a bad spot underground in the cables coax, a cut, that would let water seep in. He spliced it, shrink wrapped it and was outta here in 15 mins.
