Politicians you have actually liked
It is so much easier do damn them all. Has there been a politician you actually liked..it could be that you liked them politically or just got a good vibe from them as a person even if you didn't agree with all of their politics.
The first person that came to my mind was from British politics and was Mo Mowlam. She was involved with the signing of the Good Friday Agreement and I think British politics in general and the Labour party in particular is much worse off since her death. Has there been a politician that you have actually liked and why? |

Likeable politicians are the ones who don't follow the party lines like sheep. Keeping with British politics Tony Benn, Boris Johnson and Ken Livingston are some recent examples. Can't see many of this type of politician in 10 or 20 years. |

I like Bill Clinton because he is down to earth. He is a musician, smoked weed, fucked interns, and always seemed to have a good sense of humor. While George W. just seems like some clueless old guy in a nursing home waiting to have his diaper changed.

I just got one politician, a senator that I liked but unfortunately he died 3 years ago. I still remember the day when he gave me a token, so sad

id have to say Ronald Reagan. I really got the vibe from him that he loved his country. May not agree with everything he did politically....
I like Teddy Roosevelt too ..."speak softly and carry a big stick" |

![]() You prob remember her efforts to get the "Irish problem" sorted where she did a good bit of work and at one stage in the negotiation conference, removing her wig (cancer problem) and throwing this on the table to break the ice with the idiots on both sides ![]() There are prob a number of likeable politicians, but the are shrouded in ass-covering, agendas and sub plots to the extent the real person rarely shows thru. At one stage I kinda liked John McCain in the US - and certainly respect the man, but he got bogged down in Washington and then appears to be going thru his loopy phrase in standing as a presidential candidate. Generally, it's easier to like politicians who have some moral fibre to dump the smokescreen, be honest and forget the "veneer".

I would definitely do Bill. Even today.
And I've always been a big Jimmy Carter fan. Super smart guy. I found him to be an amazing orator, even though he doesn't consider himself to be. I could listen to him and Clinton speak all day and never get bored.

I don't care for politicians to be honest. None really speak for the people, just who pays their campaigns and what their party tells them. 99% of the politicians in this world don't give a fuck about anyone but themselves.
One guy I did enjoy while living in Minnesota was Jesse Ventura. I didn't agree with everything he had to say, but his ideas were his own and not some talking points he was handed in the morning by his party. He spoke against organized religion and called it a sham, wanted to legalize prostitution, and had a lot of libertarian beliefs. He got a little too caught up in the media and publicity stunts though, otherwise he had some really progressive ideas. |

Bill Clinton was amazing.... strong charisma, seriously smart guy.
In UK politics, Robin Cook great politician, and seriously principled. Resigned over Iraq and gained a great deal of respect and many accolades during his career. Died an untimely death in 2005 whilst out hill walking in Scotland.

Oscar Goodman, the mayor of Las Vegas....he's a great ambassador of the city, is a likeable guy and just seems more accessible than most politicians...plus he did a guest photographer stint for Playboy and did an ad for Gin...the man loves his martinis...and did I mention, he actually gets things done?

Boris Johnston because he totally cracks me up at times.
I often read reports of politicians who say things I agree with by reflecting the views of most people without pandering to the wimpy left wing shitstains that seem to be a real loud voice and dont want to hurt anyones feelings. I do however tend to forget them, one recently was an Aussie politician who came out with a stance saying if you dont like what we are dont bother coming here. I really agree with that sort of thing. Oh and I liked Clinton becuase he seemed like a regular guy. |

She died a few years ago..right before Robin Cooke (two Labour folk that put Tony in his place now and then). I liked how she dealt with her illness without shame. I remember the stories of her shutting up the big Irish guys around the table at the Good Friday talks by taking off her wig when she was getting frustrated. |

I like Jimmy Carter as a person too. My grandfather worked on his campaign and always talked about meeting him as a highlight of his life.
