The first person that came to my mind was from British politics and was Mo Mowlam. She was involved with the signing of the Good Friday Agreement and I think British politics in general and the Labour party in particular is much worse off since her death.

Wow, I didn't know she'd died. Very sad.

Likeable politicians are the ones who don't follow the party lines like sheep. Keeping with British politics Tony Benn, Boris Johnson and Ken Livingston are some recent examples. Can't see many of this type of politician in 10 or 20 years.
