Just a thought...
Yeah i agree that its not obligation of having coding skills for sure. Top quality designers in the most leading companies in the world are not hired to code and that´s the fact but when you get to interview they will ask you 100% if you have any skills or knowledge of html etc just to make sure designer can distinct certain techniques of web design to make sure the coder wont have to send a redesign request
I have been working many years as a principal web designer and had to work closely with coders and the truth is when the coder gets the final design version he actually must code it exactly as it appears on the final file but the problem comes when certain parts of design simply bring pain in the ass to code due that designer had its own artistic picture and could not consider that certain parts should be done in a coding consideration manner, then the coder must send a request with detailed explanation why it can not be coded etc etc the routine process. But of course professional WEB designers they do consider markup techniques and in most cases they do have html/css skills and how certain parts will be seen on variouse resolutions etc etc. Web design is a great, creative and technical profession which i love the most!
