A while back I was subscribed to over 200 personal finance blogs. From what I've seen, most of them are garbage. The good ones even end up being pretty lame. Spend your time figuring out how to make more money, minimize long term liabilities, and keep your cost of living low.

Thats what I've done, and my income has gone up fast.. should scrape or surpass 7 figures this year, in profit. Bending over backwords to get an extra percentage point or two on your $50,000 stock portfolio (or less) is a huge fucking waste of time.

I'm not trying to be a total elitest asshole here, because really I'm far from being rich, but after a quick glance of this guys site and reading a few entries... why should I listen to this guy?

He seems to offer practical advice... but he has a corporate job, his wife is a teacher with a government salary/benefits package... and they have to make a drastic life change to afford that second kid? That makes no sense to me. How good can this guys personal finance really be? And why should I be listening to him?

When my car is broke I'll ask a mechanic for advice way before I'll ask my buddy Joe.

Sly, that is certainly a fair assesment; however, a wise man once told me... "Learn from EVERYONE, even the janitor may know more than you think." What I like about this guy is that he is like most people and really gives advice to the masses based on what he encounters in his own regular pretty simple life. There are great lessons inside of that. Many "personal finance guru's" pretend that they are successful and wealthy like many in this business but in reality are full of shit. At least with this guy Trent at thesimpledolllar he is real and you know what his deal is.

I started reading at the beginning of his blog, and have went through a couple of month's worth of posts. What I have liked about it so far is that he is someone who dug himself one hell of a financial hole, and seems to have found a way out. (assuming that last part, because I've not read far enough yet) There seems to be some material about considering your relationship with money, why you spend, etc.

I like those kind of things. They seem more 'real' to me than reading some analyst spout stuff I don't understand.

Edit: I like Dave Ramsey for the same reason.
