Anyone here get panic attacks?

WTF brings those bitches on? I was happy as hell today, having a wonderful day and POOF, I couldn't breath, lips went numb, couldn't think right, etc (Which I do believe is all linked back to hyperventilating and not realizing it). But what in the hell would set one off out of the middle of nowhere. Yes, I'm sleep deprived, yes I'm stressed out, but I was having a perfectly happy/positive lil drive and it hit me like a bat out of hell. And went away almost as quickly when I pulled over, exited my car and got some fresh air, threw some water on myself and walked for a few minutes. (in other words "got a grip".)

I'll never understand them. If I could figure out what causes them, maybe I could just avoid that trigger. Was given 10 xanax by my doc but won't take them, don't like that shit, there has to be a natural way to avoid the attacks.

Anyone else ever had one?

I get them bad... it's one reason why I type so much. Keep your mind busy and they don't seem to happen much if at all. As soon as I get relaxed and my mind is cleared with no thoughts, the panic attacks come on.

My severe panic attacks feel just like what I would imagine a heart attack feels like, radiating chest pains, cold sweats, general feeling of impending doom, etc.

Do you get some sort of regular exercise? I run 6 days a week, no matter how stressed or busy I am. It's my hour out of the day just for me. Once you get "in the zone" your stresses and everything else melts away. It's an amazing feeling. I've also found this really reduces any anxiety through the rest of the day too.

I do mild exercise, but nothing to brag about, etc. (not like I used to) I get them while driving most of the time, the others come on for no damn reason when I'm chilling out and getting ready for bed. I think notabook might have nailed it right there...... it seems they come on when I'm relaxing. When I'm in a frenzy of work, I can't remember having one. Only outside of busy times. I can't believe I didn't make the connection until now. The logic isn't there though.... you are letting your mind and body get rest and it backfires on you?

Not SURE that is it, but it sounds very reasonable.

yeah i haven't had one for a while though. i used to think they came from stress but i know now thats not the case. i have no idea why or how they come on but sure enough they do every so often.

i mean hell ill be hanging out with a couple buddies of mine watching a game or something on tv and bam ill get hit with one out of no where. can't breathe, sight gets blurry, try to slow my breathing it doesn't work, and i damn near pass out before i can get some water. only thing that seems to calm me down is to lay down somewhere right there on the spot. it's really fucked up.

Core problem is lifestyle - something is just not right. It could be unhealthy pressure, lack of breaks, something in the background of your life, financial crap or you are just not happy about something.

You may not notice (most folks don't), but chances are something is building up in the background.

Simple example... I get a few visitors here from "industrialized countries" - most are fine, but there have been a couple of instances of folks just falling apart (cracking up) - what hits em is they are unable (sometimes only takes four days) to actually relax. They want to do stupid stuff... basically just to keep moving. If it gets worse, they then realize what they are missing and totally horrified at the thought of going back to "normal life".

Similar with one of the lawyers - he just spent about 10 days back in the US and hit him in the face how much pressure folks were under - and was a relief to get back to paradise world (tho that has it's own problems *lol*)

Nobody really knows why they come on, panic/anxiety attacks that is. But there is a strong correlation between "doing nothing" and panic attacks. If you get still and stop thinking, they happen... I first noticed it years ago, most of my attacks were happening right as I tried going to sleep. As everything got still around me and as I stopped thinking about things they would strike. Because of that I don't get nearly as much sleep as I should... I get like 3 hours of sleep on average because for me getting to sleep is an extremely terrifying experience.

I am as calm as a cucumber and don't get stressed about anything. But then I married to girl that had manic depression. Living on edge with her for 6 years, and wham I started getting these shocking panic attacks. Anyway left her and the panic attacks stopped and havent looked like having one since...Just gotta keep away from things that stress you out..
