I didn't know he was canceled until this thread. I would have been OK if they just made his life a living hell for a week, maybe some FCC sensitivity classes or send him to services at a black church in Selma, Alabama. But it wasn't my call.

He doesn't deserve to be fired. It wasn't a racist remark - it was a mean thing to say, and the latter comment he made was in reference to a Spike Lee film. He just spoke off the top of his head trying to be funny. "Insensitive" humor is often funny. By the same token I think the likes of Jesse Jackson should have been taken off the air years ago (or better yet, never given a forum at all). Imus has always been a dick and says mean things to all types of people, for the sake of humor, not hate. That's his schtick. So be it.

Every source I'm seeing says Syria. Not Iran.

Negotiating a hostage release is great and all, but those are 2 pretty different events that both had very different impacts.

It wasn't a racist remark - it was a mean thing to say, and the latter comment he made was in reference to a Spike Lee film. He just spoke off the top of his head trying to be funny. "Insensitive" humor is often funny. By the same token I think the likes of Jesse Jackson should have been taken off the air years ago (or better yet, never given a forum at all). Imus has always been a dick and says mean things to all types of people, for the sake of humor, not hate. That's his schtick. So be it.

They were actually release to Jesse Jackson after Carter lost the election to Regan. Many Americans felt that Jimmy Carter sending Jesse to negotiate with terrorists for the release of our citizens, was why he lost the election.
