Browsers:
My primary broswer is Explorer 6.0. This is what I use to design my web pages. I check the pages using Netscape 6.2.
I just checked alot of the pages with Netscape and needless to say many of them are screwed up in Netscape. Tables don't come out right, stye doesn't come out right, banner rotator comes to a virtual halt, flash games do not work at all, news tickers don't work at all, etc. Question #1: Is Netscape 7.0 anymore likely to display the above properly? Question #2: Has it been definintively confirmed what percentage of surfers are using Netscape and if so; what is the percentage? Question #3: Is it worth my time and trouble to attempt to correct the problems so that it will work in Netscape. All input will be appreciated. |

Well, your tables are messed up because you need to put the html code &nb sp; (take away the space between nb and sp) in your blank table areas. And yes it is important to design for both, alot of people use netscape, I don't know the exact % but I have looked through my webstats. As for styles, some styles are just for IE, like the outerglow and some others I don't feel like thinking about. Hope it helped

i'd suggest designing for both IE and mozilla - mozilla since it could become the next AOL browser. anyways, good html will work in both just fine.

![]() A lot of people say fuck netscape, but when you take into account that AOL will be using Mozilla as it's default in the near future, you suddenly have a large chuck of people that were previously on IE that will be 'zillers, and they will be too dumb to know how to switch back. You are better off getting a handle on it now.
IMHO. As for the flash stuff. You shouldn't have any problems, flash works well in all browsers that support the plug in, do you have the plug in installed? What banner software are you using? -Rev

HomeGrown is correct about the tables - proper html is needed to show these (the reason most things don't look 'right' is because of poor coding) |

and besides it's only the trickier stuff that doesn't work in both.. normal sites, especially the 95% of porn sites that are very simple html shouldn't have a problem.. flash works independently of the browser.. make sure you code looks like : PHP Code:

and no it's not PHP, just that tag lets you actually see the code instead of trying to run it.

IE forgives bad code Netscape does not. One of the biggest mistakes is in table sizing and how each browser tries to decide what you want from conflicting size values. People mix % and pixels then after hours of hard work find that IE and Netscape have different ideas about how the page should render. There are a handful of basic rules that vary depending on how far back you want compatibility. I code most pages including the Java and Styles for Netscape 4.7, everything else usually follows good.

flash works fine in mozilla on windows. i can't use it on freebsd since they don't have a flash player yet, unfortunately.
i'm not sure what you mean by banner rotator and tickers though, but i have seen banner ads that change when i reload (that's server side anyways) and tickers.

I have corrected the tables and the banner rotator. Netscape did not like the way I was setting the height in tables and since I am using templates, it was easy to fix. I have had to correct tables before for Netscape.
The tickers and flash games are hosted off my site and apparently Netscape does not like the code provided to me. I will have to do a search and see if I can find something that will work on both IE and Netscape. I really don't want to host any games myself. The games are but a small feature of the site so they really are not that important. I may just put up a disclaimer and tell the surfers if they want to play the games and view the tickers, download IE. The tickers I am speaking of are news, market, sports score, tickers. If anyone is aware of tickers that work in both IE and Netscape clue me in please. Thanks for the input guys and gals. |

I am all squared away now. All problems have been corrected.
I have found games, news, market and sport scores that works in both IE and Netscape. Didn't take as long to correct the problems as I thought it might. It is past my break time, so time to kick back for awhile. |
