Are our children safe?

To be completely honest I am a father of two and I am very worried about the world my sons are growing up in. American is supposed to be the land of the free , this country is supposed to be based upon the voice of the people, and it seems like our voices do not mean shit when it comes to government politics. Do we really have a say on what is right and what is wrong?

We look at the current wars going on in Iraq and Afghanistan and things are becoming a shit hole things are not improving things are getting worse. Now we look at possibly going to war with Iran.

Iran is not like Iraq, Iran is very organized and China and Russia do alot of business with Iran, would they stand idle and loose alot of there countries income while we invade?

I do not know about you guys but I am very scared of what America is becoming.

Going into Iran is definately not something the US wants to do. With four armed forces not unlike our own and over a half million known elisted troops who are ready to lay down their lives for their country and their religious beliefs. That's not counting the over 10 million more than could also join in the fight at a moment's notice. It is widely considered the most powerful military force in the Middle East and would make the Iraq invasion look like playing DOOM in God mode.

The US is supposedly building up advisors in Bahrain for a prepared attack on Iran. It is also reported that US media is starting to gather there too, so it could be soon that we see a US attack on Iran. (Bahrain is an island nation in the Persian Gulf.)

Although, IMO, I don't think the US/UK would 'invade' Iran, only destory their Navy and nuclear facilities. Invasion is too costly and would never pass in the UK or the US, that is why Iran took those sailors, because they know the US can't invade them.

As to America's actions... if it keeps shitting on people, it will get shit on itself, again. 9/11 didn't happen because people 'hate freedom', it happened because people kept getting shit on by the US. Hopefully, the US decides to cure the problem, rather than try to supress the symptoms.

You cant be this naive but lets say for a minute you are, if you are so worried about your kids just move. You have supported and known American policy your entire life, if you have lived oblivious to it that is your fault. America still is and will continue to be the best overall country on the face of the earth.

Look, the world sucks but do you really think our kids are less safe now than they were 100 or 200 years ago? Do you really worry that your children will starve to death? Or how about die of smallpox or dysentery? How about have the lord of the land you live on decide you need to leave. Or are you going to be so destitute that they will have to go work the fields for 12-16 hours a day at the ripe old age of 8 to help pay the bills. Will you need to sell a couple of them to keep your home? Do you really think that anyone is going to invade the USA and take us over? No chance in hell. Cause us grief, sure. Wipe us all out, not likely.

People that grew up in that post WWII era have a blissful memory of a world that only existed for a small time in one part of the world.

People sucks, and if you don't teach your kids that they have to be smart to survive then they won't. Tell them why they really shouldn't do drugs ( not just drugs are bad mmmmkay ), show them what people that get into gangs wind up dealing with, teach them about sex and what is smart and what isn't. Teach them to not walk home alone.

OK, enough rant. Now I am going to go color with my kid.

I have known this harsh reality since I was a teen, only mistake I made was to think that things would improve, that a country as great as this couldn't really be this bad. Maybe I have naive and if things get worse perhaps I will move.

What seems to be your major problem with it, you seem to be doing just fine?
Sure EVERY country has problems but day to day "normal life" in America is pretty damn good.

In my mind it is same shit different day. Only real difference now is that we have more reporting and anyone anywhere (except parts of Korea) can communicate with anyone else via any medium. So we get to hear of ever horror story, pitfall, issue, or fake issue out there.

However I do think we have more freedoms now than before, we just notice more when people try or do take one away somehow. Not that many years ago I could of called a cop a pig and he would proceed to billy club my forehead until slight retardation set in. No concerns of free speech either, he would just say I deserved it and that would be it. No cell phones to record what happened, no internet to get world outrade, just his word versus mine.

Though on the flip side more and more American have less and less interest in politics and or voting. They allow the nutjobs to get their way until we occassionally wake up and say what the fuck and vote once, then we reset the clock and let them go nutty yet again. It is to bad however that to many people are always thinking what about the children, and what about me instead of what about the constitution and freedoms.

If you aren't concerned than something is wrong with you. Escalation with Iran and the Middle East is inevitable. Over the past 8 years SOME people have started to realize that we are just along for the ride.

The problem is that people are being bought off by greed. Happy folks don't complain until it effects them directly. Usually it is too late by then.

People by nature are vain and have concerns for themselves. It takes a nation to build a nation. Unfortunately we don't have that kind of unity anymore. When things get real bad we will come together and support each other.
Until then it will just keep getting worse.

i hate to break the news to ya, but 75% of the worlds population lives in extreme poverty. we're all naive. this place is a utopia compared to the living conditions for the majority of the people on this planet.
