I read the minutes, is this the section that means that they cannot come back with this again

"Accordingly, it is resolved (07.__) that the Proposed Agreement with ICM concerning the .XXX sTLD is rejected and the application request for a delegation of the .XXX sTLD is hereby denied. "

I have not read minutes of when it came up before, so I was not sure.

This is great news, and those of you that have kept hammering the boards to keep us informed and to get us involved deserve a round of applause.

Kudos!

edgeprod 03-30-2007 08:02 AM

Well, they can eat a dick anyway. I'm rubbing mine right now, as a matter of fact.

CDSmith 03-30-2007 08:08 AM

I had a strong feeling it would be shot down in the end.

Btw, I'm not psychic or anything. :D

It was just a bad idea proposed by people who only see what they want to see as far as adult on the web is concerned. People with an agenda. I was fairly confident that once all the actual facts were presented that cooler (and hopefully more intelligent) heads would prevail.

dennisthemenace 03-30-2007 08:21 AM

the wicked witch is finally dead!

A big thanks to everyone that voiced their opinion to ICANN

seeric 03-30-2007 09:46 AM

Well, here is the audio stream I recorded last night. Took me a bit to rip it off the DAT tape and normalize the audio. It is uncut and exactly as they spoke it.

.XXX was defeated 9-5 with Dr. Tomey abstaining from the vote. If you remember correctly he is the one responsible for even bringing this to ICANN in not so many words.

Here is the .zip file.

This were public meetings in Lisbon.

*NOTE* I've parked this on my goofballing server, so it may be a little slow. Its a good listen.

Have a great day.

JMM 03-30-2007 09:50 AM

Now we just need to find out who the 26 "supporters" were so that people can make decisions on who they do business with.

Great friday morning news, let's smoke some weed

Linkster 03-30-2007 10:01 AM

"It was not immediately clear if ICM would revise its proposal again, abandon the bid or perhaps appeal the decision or take action through the courts."

From the AP story

seeric 03-30-2007 10:06 AM

ICM cannot revise or even think of resubmitting the proposal this round which means it will be a few years (average) or 18 months I guess until they get a shot at it again, if they choose so, which if you listen to icann's comments from each panel member carefully, would be futile. the bottom line is icann says it will not be responsible nor undertake the duties of policing the content of the tld, nor will it allow an agency like IFFOR which is obviously a bedfellow of ICM monitor tlds as such.

there were many many other things that they brought up that ICM would have a very very difficult time getting them to change their mind on. Things that you can't throw money at.

Check out the stream. Focus on it, because at points with all the professional meeting mumbo jumbo, it gets complicated and dry, but its worth the listen.

tASSy 03-30-2007 10:12 AM

yay for a huge positive step in our direction. :thumbsup
