Well, the Mercedes of hosting is by far and away Verio. They host more domains, sites, and dedicated servers than anyone...no offense to the other great hosting companies out there, but Verio is without a doubt the leader.

Who is the best host regardless of price? Why don't you take a look at where the HUGE sites hosts. Cybererotica, ARS, TheHun, OxCash, WorldSex... Sites that make millions of dollars and only care about one thing, uptime, not price.

Don't listen to these small time petty people in here... none of them are actuall players and most of them are promoting shitty hosts in order to get a lower rate for themselves.

You will not see any of these sites listed here at any hosts mentioned in this thread... Doesn't that tell you something?

Most of the players, (big time sponsors) all seem to use
National-Net! Maxcash uses them, and so does SIC I think....

my biased opinion, but we do have some large and impressive clients, which i won't name

and we have been around since 1996

We arn't the cheapest, but we work very well for mission-critical sites and have great support

In the same building as CCBill, and there are percentage discounts and other symmetries associated with using both Cavecreek and CCBill

About verio:
they would not even configure a custom 404 page from windows accounts. they do not add modules, their smtp for perl applications do not work, and they BS their technical responses.

I've been around and hosted on many different hosts, and I will have to say Techie Media is 1 of the best I've ever used. I have several dedicateds with them now and they rock. They answer the phone and have techs on icq etc.... Prices are very good and uptime is great. I know (but won't mention) they host some of the biggest sites on the net, and there must be a reason for it??...

verio is not in good shape. round after round of layoffs and consolidations. they should have done this a few years ago while things were good instead of wasting so much money on datacenters and redundant operations (history: verio bought 40 or so ISPs in an attempt to create one large one. this failed miserably. if it were not for NTT, verio would have gone the way of RCN (also of colorado. btw, remember TCI? colorado too. guess who founded verio. yep, TCI execs. dunno if they were fired or left on their own or what...)

i'd strongly suggest avoiding verio for hosting unless you're ok with moving your site around in 6-12 months.

This is good!

Good to see the industry finally stablizing, and with competition has brought quality companies.

Ive seen a lot of great names mentioned.
I can tell you that

Candid
Techie Media
Flying Croc (sex tracker)
and
Like Whoa are all top Notch Quality Hosts.

Im a firm believer that you get what you pay for, and that these 4 companies are the BEST in terms of quality.

We at the family use Like Whoa not only for thier quality, but becasue we have the hook up over there.

I suggest you shop around, get prices with all these QUALITY companies on what you want, then icq me, and tell me what ya got.

Like I said, if you wanna be BP4L, I can hook ya up. Like Whoa gives the family a serious hook up in price.

I've had the displeasure of dealing with cyberwurx (conepuppy) recently and would never recommend them.

As to who I WOULD recommend, I always had good luck with Candid, and I am currently using Phatservers, although with prices like Moose has I don't know if I would call it the Benz of the hosting world. Honda maybe? ;>
