![]() About to release a new project and I'm looking for a dedicated server. Seen prices as low as $550 for 50mbp/s box. Sounds too good to be true. I'm currently paying $45/gig. I'm not particularly looking for a new host but instead wondering am I paying too much? Do you guys do better for your cost per gig for a dedicated box?

I guess you mean $45 per mb, if you mean per gig I feel sorry for you, lol ;)

Whether or not $45 per mbit is "too expensive" depends on a range of variables.
What is the quality of the bandwidth? What is your commitment plan? How is the hosts support? What kind of hardware are you using? Are you happy with your current solution? I see this happen a lot. Somebody will see a dirt cheap price with another company and will take the plunge only to crawl back to their provider a few months later after taking a huge business hit because the cheap provider ended up being cheap for a reason. The grass is not always greener. My advice: develop a solid relationship with a host that you can trust and you won't have to worry about jumping for cheaper prices or better service.

My host hasn't let me down but cost is still cost, all the same. Realizing you get what you pay for there is such a thing as paying too much.

ISPrime currently has a 30 mbps server (fully managed, you know their reputation) for $899. I guess with a longer time commitment that price can be brought down. You're paying too much.
