Anyone here have restless leg syndrome or know someone who does? *mental breakdown
Me and my boyfriend both are almost completely maxed out with utter exhaustion. We just moved in together a couple weeks ago and I think I've had about 10 total combined hours of sleep until last night when he had to sleep on the couch. I almost checked into a local hotel just cuz I needed just one night of solid sleep.
What's weird is he's had this fidgety uncomfortable annoyance for a while now but it wasn't affecting his sleep too much. It seems to be getting worse and we recently found out his dad also has this. Also the snoring.. the two combined... I'm about to jump off a bridge! We severely need help before everyone has a total breakdown from exhaustion. He's having this unrestful type of snorning which immediately jerks him awake, and triggers the leg squirming real bad.. then just cycles like that every single minute all night long. Anyone have this? Are the two worsening each other? Is there anything in the universe that can be done? I'll pay whatever amount of money.. I'll do anything. I don't want to have to sleep in seperate rooms. It's horribly sad to watch him too cuz even though he's sleeping more than I am, he's not getting even close to the rest that he should be and he's totally wiped out. ![]() |

Sex him up before you go to bed...
Also, with regards to the snoring, try to fall asleep before he does. Otherwise, your only alternative is to smother him with a pillow... ADG Webmaster |

Not sure abot RLS but he should get checked out for Sleep Apnea because of the snoring that wakens him, probably because he stops breathing.

I've heard of this before, and know there are medications for it. But I'd go to a DR to find out what is really going on rather than jump to conclusions right away. If it's something simple, sure would save some time solving it. Good luck, sleeping alone is no fun

RLS and all that other shit these drug companies make up to get us to by drugs is ridiculous. you cant tell me you don't laugh at some of the commercials on tv that come on. heres one "do you suffer from exhaustion? its not the 4 kids the 3 jobs, the 2 homes and housework, and the 23 hobbies you have and lack of sleep time, it must be Can't SLeep Attall disease. You have CSA disease. You must take NOSLEEPATALL drugs. Warning side effects include shrunken penis, kidney stones, shortness of breath, your eyeballs may fall out. Some patients may experience permanent memory loss. If you'd like to remember your parents and childhood you may reconsider taking NOSLEEPATALL as your memory may never return. if people in the u.s. were 1/4 more smart than they are about legal drugs, the drug companies would be out of business. i believe apnea is real, my old boss has it. That RLS shit and other things are made up. Bottom line is if many fat ass americans would get out and exercise and eat right they wouldn't need half the drugs on the market. thats a fact. ![]() |

if he doesnt notice hes jerking awake then most likely its sleep apnea, if he didnt snore and did that it would most likely be something totally different but with the snoring thats usually a sign of apnea

Sounds like apnea to me, too. My grandpa has it, my dad has it, and I have it. It's either a huge coincidence or genetic, I really haven't done much looking into it. It's very real though. I can't sleep for shit without my machine.
Have him go to the doctor, probably have to do a sleep study.

Tie his legs up in belts so he won't kick, and then use those bridge things that open your nose while you sleep so he won't snore. Although he may have a hard time getting up in the morning when he's all tied up but you can have your way with him too

RLS can be treated with Rx therapy. As well, the stress of moving in together could of provoked the sydrome even more than usual (both pos and neg stress = stress).
Listen to him when hes sleeping and make sure he is on a constant breathing cycle for 2 minutes. If he stops for longer than 6 seconds, its a sign of sleep apnea. That causes some people with the condition to waken many times during the night. DO NOT use otc sleep aids As for the snoring, that could be from many things, but there are some remedies for it. Me.. I thought I may have sleep apnea, but I really snore. It drives my gf crazy and sometimes I really exhausted during the day. I went to the doctor and told him my symptoms and he gave me some anti-depressant because he said it sounds like im physically depressed. Ive been on it for about 4 weeks and ive noticed a big difference. Im not nearly as tired, and ive even noticed that I dont wake up so often during the night... so maybe it has something to do with sleep apnea, who knows. As for my obnixous snoring, i think it has to do with 1) my stress and 2) large weight gain in the past few years. I noticed when i drink a lot of booze before bed (specifically beer) i snore more than when i dont. Same for when I eat right before bed too. Im trying to find a solution for it, but there are some otc things im willing to try. good luck tho, and make sure he gets checked out

That is some funny shit! I do agree that there is bullshit out there. I think it goes as far as people creating mental illnesses to get drugs. I know one girl, who doesn't post here anymore, that finds one problem after another just to get drugs. It makes me sick. She is real thin though. In fact all the American's I know that pull the "I have this illness or that illness" are thin as hell. But what do I know living here and all. Anyway, it is funny. I always laugh at people like that. When I got anxiety attacks I refused to take any brain pills. That shit fucks your head in the long run more than the freakin problem. I just fought it. I talked to myself, I cried, I let it happen did breathing exercise and they went away. I know there are people out there in the world who have mental problems but I do think it goes way too far. I laugh at those commercials too, but I don't think stupid fucking people, or fat asses, I just laugh at man kind in general. I am a positive person. If it wasn't for us stupid fat American's (as alarmist people say all the time) a lot of people wouldn't have what they have today! On another note, I would look into maybe having his adenoids removed, if they are a problem. A friend of mine was snoring really badly to the point he couldn't sleep, they took those puppies out, drained his sinuses and he hasn't snored since. This site I found for ya has some good info, but I do like that valium for him, ear plugs for you! ![]() http://www.helpguide.org/life/snoring.htm

btw folks dont take my posts the wrong way. without drugs i'd be so bored. ROFL.
i'm not making light of anyones situation, i am merely pointing out our (americans) dependence on chemical substances and the lucrative market that it influences and breathes life into. thats my point. if you've ever done any reading into the pharmaceutical market and how much money is in it you'd see right through all those commercials on tv. exercise, good food, and great rest cures lots of lifes "blues". this does not mean that there are not valid medical conditions spoken of in this thread, so don't take it the wrong way, i gots love for all of ya. |

I've had RLS for a long time and don't take shit for it. It only comes once in a while, every few months, for a few nights, then goes away.
I haven't been able to tie it to any change in my diet or behavior, it's completely random. I hate it, it feels like there are bugs in the bones of my leg, especially around my knee, and they are writhing around and unless I move my joint, they drive me crazy. It feels a lot like when a limb goes asleep, and is waking up, that pins and needles sensation, but inside your bones, and it sticks around for a few hours. What I do now when it happens, I get out of bed, stretch, drink some water, walk around a bunch, stretch again and try to lessen the feeling enough for me to get back to sleep. |

I totally agree with you. But if a person doesn't think this way or truly believe what you posted they will probably be better off with the meds at least for a while. Of course if you can stay off meds that is best. I try to avoid pharma stuff at all costs... ![]()

Ya, AIR3k, I agree with you in that there's too much emphasis on Rx remedies to ailments... most drugs just treat the symptoms and not the cause, anyways. Giving kids ritalin before encouraging exercise and activity is the worst example of that kind of abuse in our society, I think.
But I'm pretty sure RLS is a real thing. I'm not sure what the clinical definition of RLS is, but my gilfriend is the second woman I've known whose legs spasm uncontrollably every other night as she's entering sleep. She also complains of severe pain coming out of nowhere in her bones, and the like. She thinks it's because because she spends most of her day on her feet in high heels. If I wasn't such a heavy sleeper, it'd probably bother me. But I am, and it really doesn't. Tends to not happen as bad if she exercises and then stretches before going to sleep. To the OP: Something like Yoga might be a real solution for your hubby as it encourages both proper breathing and soothes restlessness in the body.

@ AsianDivaGirlsWebDude: Best suggestion I've heard
To the RLS doubters: Beleive me, I am as skeptical of the drug companies, doctors, government, religions, etc etc as anyone. I dont get illnesses from watching TV commercials. In fact, I rarely get sick at all. I've had the RLS symptoms long before I knew there were other people with it, and long before I even had cable TV. And during some of that time, I had jobs involving a substantial amount of exersize. AFA snoring, I've tried the nose strip things, and throat wash, but that didnt seem to do a damn thing. One thing that's changed since we've moved in here is I didnt bring my memory foam mattress topper. Looking online for bargains now. Thanks to many of you for your concern, thats nice for someone you dont even know, and we appreciate it.

I've gone through this one with my gf.
Have him see a doctor, and have a sleep study done. It's not a big deal, they just have him go sleep at a lab for six hours one night. If it turns out that restless leg really is the diagnosis, requip has worked great for my gf. If it's sleep apnea, there are other treatments that are very effective (I have several family members with it). As for the snoring, I've heard good things about the nose strips, but haven't tried anything...since we both snore, we cancel each other out ;-) |

Ah great, I've been hoping to hear from someone who this works on. Is it the kind of thing where youre kicking back after dinner and RLS hits, and you can pop the pill and it goes away? Or do you have to build it up for a few days before you start to get relief?

RRRED - some things you can do, or that might help: my RLS makes it so that i wake up from either jerking from muscle spasms or from stopping breathing with the sleep apnea and then i lie awake at night with my legs spasming and my feet and toes kicking and sort of 'crawling' against the sheets for cycles of minutes at a time for about half of the night. i find that if i get up when i have this problem and either walk around a bit or sit in front of something mildly mindless (surfing forums for instance, or reading an easy book) for about 15 minutes my brain redirects and starts to tell my body it's sleepy again and i can usually get back to sleep. your problem is slightly different because it sounds like he's doing fine sleeping but he's keeping you awake! the more someone focuses on trying to mentally "stop" the muscle twitching the worse it gets, so it's best to try to redirect your brain or to give in to your legs' need to move and walk around/do something active with them. in addition to that i take supplements for iron, calcium and magnesium to help with the twitching. sometimes people with RLS are found to be more deficient in these areas. i also recommend exercising regularly, and especially close to just before bedtime if possible. keeping a regular sleep schedule - namely sleeping and waking at the same time everyday is also really helpful in getting your body to settle into a pattern and to give you more restful sleep. don't eat or drink anything for a few hours before bed. it's still helpful to have a place for one partner to sleep if the other has RLS (or for the RLS patient to move to if need be - this too sometimes stops the trigger of leg movement) even though it sucks because you want to sleep with your honey! i hope something in this info helps, there are also medication prescribed for it, but that's not my personal first choice. right now the main treatments are similar to antidepressants outside of one mediction, Requip, and another medication like Darvocet that's an opiod. here's to a good night of sleep again, i know how frustrating this can be!

The secret to a successful relationship is separate bedrooms. Day or night, people need their own space. I don't understand why as kids we demand our own rooms and then we're expected to give up that luxury as adults. Especially if you're like us, 2 people sharing a 2700 sq ft house. There's nothing romantic about laying there unconscious together, all knees and elbows. Cuddle, fuck, then retire to your own beds. You'll both get a better nights sleep, and noone has to lay in the wet spot.

I believe your quality of life is determined mostly by what you're willing to accept. Any girl that would get upset about an issue like separate bedrooms isn't someone I'd want to live with in the first place. Let some other loser date that drama queen. It's not even a compromise, because we both enjoy the benefits. I can leave my clothes all over the floor and let the dog sleep in the bed, she can turn her room into a pink princess suite. Sure, I sleep over in my wife's room sometimes, but she'd never want me to move in. We've been together more than seven years now, are home together 24/7, and yet somehow never fight. Previous live-in GFs never had a problem with it either. It just seems like common sense really.

I have it.. had it.. it comes and goes. Tassy is pretty much dead on..
Other things I noticed that help is drinking more water, getting your legs massaged, stretching daily, and proper exercise helps. From what I understand it's a oxygen/blood flow to the muscles that cause the aches and twitches.
