how come i cant see some pics when my firewalls up?

I have recently noticed that I come accross sites that the pics dont come up, but when I turn my firewall off the pics then appear. Whats up with this?

yeah zonealarm, but I also have Nortons Antivirus/firewall also and I get the same...I have to shut down both. anyone else have this problem?

i had both running.... also had those broken image errors.... still have norton running. uninstalled zone alarm and havent had the problem since.

some personal firewalls strip the refer info from the http get request

so if the .htaccess is setup to prevent hotlinking via checking for the refer you will not get to see pics

norton personal firewall is one that I can think of that does this

norton firewall strips the referer: header.

pisses the fuck out of me.

when is it the responsibility of a firewall to do this sort of shit? that's more of a "privacy" thing and should be tied to a browser.. it also breaks RFC purposely. forget hotlink protection or web stats.. bah.

i could understand hiding the X-Forwarded-For or Via headers.. but christ.. Referer isn't that big of a deal to reveal.
