All of the men in my family (granfather, father, great grandfather, etc), were military men. My father made sure I was educated, was goal oriented and athletic for a reason, and it wasn't to be shipped away. I knew I could do something productive with my life that doesn't involve front line work, so I reached for that branch and pulled myself up. I respect our armed forces immensely, but it's just not right for me. Especially at this point of my life with what I know and what I have to lose.

I get the impression life is valued pretty cheap in the USA.

The other week I was watching one of those American police shows where they chase bad drivers and stuff. I couldn't believe that a couple in a stolen car would be shot at by Police for not getting out the vehicle! They must have fired about 6 shots, you could see the girl passenger trying to dodge the bullets in the passenger seat from the Helicopter camera.

Life is cheap for non-Americans there, they value their own lives pretty well.

With the way things are going, I suspect alot of people here will have children and even grandchildren spending much of their youth in the middle east.

I did my four years in the Marine Corps. Now I'm a disabled veteran and not eligible for active service.

BUT...that said, if there was a mainland invasion of the US, I'd strap the gear on, load up and go hunting. My expatriate disappointment in the current political clime and corporate regime only goes so far.

I finished my tour of duty working in battation operations for Pershing nuclear missiles. If they decide to use those in Iran..i'll re-enlist. This time as a 2 star though.

my brother tried to join the marines and he went to the interviews and all and they asked him why. he said he wanted to kill motherfuckers and they sent him home. not because of killing enemies. they thought he was a nutcase and could potentially shoot his officers or NCOs in the platoon. when i served they also discharged a few guys along the way because they liked killing too much.
