All of the men in my family (granfather, father, great grandfather, etc), were military men. My father made sure I was educated, was goal oriented and athletic for a reason, and it wasn't to be shipped away. I knew I could do something productive with my life that doesn't involve front line work, so I reached for that branch and pulled myself up. I respect our armed forces immensely, but it's just not right for me. Especially at this point of my life with what I know and what I have to lose. |
im a foreign citizen now ;x

I'd move to south america.

I get the impression life is valued pretty cheap in the USA.
The other week I was watching one of those American police shows where they chase bad drivers and stuff. I couldn't believe that a couple in a stolen car would be shot at by Police for not getting out the vehicle! They must have fired about 6 shots, you could see the girl passenger trying to dodge the bullets in the passenger seat from the Helicopter camera. |

With the way things are going, I suspect alot of people here will have children and even grandchildren spending much of their youth in the middle east.

You think consciencous objector status is easy to get? They would just make you a litter carrier. |
in this war? no.. i would either leave the country, or goto jail... i was 1 signature away from becoming a US Marine back after i graduated, and then this whole war started and i said fuck that, i don't believe in this war, if it was something true, i would have no problem, i have a huge military background, i wouldn't mind dying for my country if it was for something other then our dumbass president being greedy and wanting to take over other countries...

Up until this post I used to think you may have some redeeming qualities. |
In the words of my father, retired Marine of 30 years, Bronze star, two purple hearts, heavily decorated veteran of both Korean and Vietnam war...
"Son, if you ever go into the military I will KICK YOUR ASS!" nothing like hearing it from a guy who has been there and back a few times... God rest his soul |
funny to see all these cowards running from serving their country. especially when a genocidal dictator is threatening to WIPE A FRIENDLY NATION OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH WITH NUCLEAR BOMBS.

i'll be the first muthafucka hoping the border. Fuck the military. There's no goddamn way you'd get me in the army/navy/air force/marines/etc alive
|
I did my four years in the Marine Corps. Now I'm a disabled veteran and not eligible for active service.
BUT...that said, if there was a mainland invasion of the US, I'd strap the gear on, load up and go hunting. My expatriate disappointment in the current political clime and corporate regime only goes so far. |

I don't think this shit is any laughing matter. Let's consider ourslefs lucky to be to old and wish it doesn't happen to the generations following us. |

I finished my tour of duty working in battation operations for Pershing nuclear missiles. If they decide to use those in Iran..i'll re-enlist. This time as a 2 star though.
|
I did 3 active and 6 reserve. I served in the Cold War and the first Gulf War. Enough for me.
|
No need to draft me, I'm already in.
Haven't been overthere yet, though. Semper Fi. |

my brother tried to join the marines and he went to the interviews and all and they asked him why. he said he wanted to kill motherfuckers and they sent him home. not because of killing enemies. they thought he was a nutcase and could potentially shoot his officers or NCOs in the platoon. when i served they also discharged a few guys along the way because they liked killing too much. :2 cents: |

some of us are smart enough to determine out own fates and the consequences, no need to follow blindly, there is a big distinction between this war and a direct and imminent threat to the US, we understand some of the self-serving agendas behind this war
70%+ of the US doesnt think we should be in iraq, the administrations arguments are very week at this point 12clicks, "sucking at your mothers teat" for free? we all pay taxes man, i bet you were never in the service and it is a very honorable thing for prince harry to join the service, show by example, not many have the balls or discipline to do this |
