NFL Owners are spending money like drunken sailors

These contracts they're doling out for mediocre players are insane. It's almost as bad as the first year they had true free agency in the NFL.

Mad props to my Dolphins for staying out of it and not overspending.

And I hate to admit it but the Patriots are making some very shrewd moves and look to be the team to beat next year

Yeah, I was a little shocked by that move. They can definately use him, but 49 million is a HUGE chunk of money to drop on one player that might be good, but he's not proven to be the best.

Maybe they see the future in him...maybe they know something...

Anyway, in any sports when we talk about trades or new contracts, success and glory never can be taken for sure...huge luck in it I think...Who knows?...

They have more than alot of teams, they could sign just about anyone they want to....but they know they're not going to turn their fortunes around with one major signing, they need alot of young players.

I'm happy to see them making trades to get extra draft picks this year. This is one of the deepest drafts in a long time and I think with Mueller making the picks they're going to have a bumper crop of a rookie class.

Yeah they're definitely going to regret this signing. Guaranteeing 18 million to a career underacheiver, big mistake.

Same thing with the idiots paying $49 million over 7 years to offensive guards who have never been to the pro bowl. It's frigging insane.

meh not really future, hes never lived up to a 2nd overall pick (ahead of LT 2nd to Vick.. I mean.. you gotta produce with that spot) now.. you COULD make a case on blaming coaches for all the placement moves if you want.. but still... I have friends that played the line professionally & yes there are some adjustments & with somethings its WAY harder (ie going right to left side or vice versa) but still 2nd overall.. your drafted to PRODUCE.

Luck comes down to injury.. while there is SOME luck involved there.. if your on a proper program & doing what you need to do you lower your risk of injury.. (though you can never be certain & fluke injuries happen ALL the time)

Problem here was also because G/T positions after the Hutchinsons contract last yr & the number of linemen getting good contracts they end up overpaying. Problem is also that players/agents KNOW theD needed linemen.
They would release Al Johnson, everyone knows Rivera is having surgery, Colombo was free agent, they screwed up in the past signing linemen, McQuistain didnt play so you cant rely on him & they released Whitley who was on IR anyways (this is also because of the Rogers/Peterman draft problems.. they werent willing to risk again all that time/money of a hurt Line draft) ... annddd breath...

phins problem is actually front office imo.
Coaching has been a disaster for them for years..
Why they went after Culpepper.. no idea. They have been screwed over in having to be in a constant state of 'rebuilding' for like 6 or so years now
As much as I used to make fun of Robo-Marino he was steady.. they have been hurt at QB forever since... then coaching killed things, drafting hasnt gone their way. I do like the trades too.. but probably within the next 3yrs they will be back up to par I think..get solid young players & maybe some exp. here or there each yr.. Its actually not bad sitting at 9th, they might get lucky & Quinn dropping there.. I'd pick him up.. save money since hes out of the Top5, get a franchise QB.. I mean right now on their roster they have Mathews & Culpepper really.. I dont put much stalk in either personally.

Yeah but Hutchinson is the best guard in the NFL. Plus a big part of that contract was just Minnesota trying to stick it to Seattle, because Seattle would have matched that offer if it wasn't for the poison pill in the contract.

All of these teams that are overpaying for lineman right now are going to be in salary cap hell in a few years, you can bet on it.

Yeah Wannestedt and Saban really fucked the dolphins up from a front office perspective.

I'm really excited now that Huizenga decided to go with a GM/Head Coach combo instead of giving one guy total control. Randy Mueller has a great track record as a GM in both the draft and trades, so I'm really stoked to see what he'll do now that he has total control of personnel.

They'll definitely take Quinn if he falls to #9, although I think most people aren't giving Culpepper enough credit. However I don't see Quinn falling that far. They really need a franchise left tackle, but Levi Brown would be a reach at #9..if they're lucky they can trade back a couple of spots with someone trying to snag LaRon Landry or that wide receiver Ginn Jr and pick up an extra pick and get the left tackle around the 12-15 spot.

They're also banking on the fact that the cap is raised each of the next few years & the few terms & conditions in CBA that they redid last yr.. but I agree.. big mistake & in the end alot of ppl who are overpaying are guna get the shaft.
I mean really.. whats the % of FA big contract signings work out? Its not very high that I know of.. Hutch, umm TO, umm.. Culpepper, Moss any of these guys get thier teams to the show? (I know i took a shot at my own team.. but its true in the end while TO did have a good season.. I dont think it was equal to his contract worth)

Other problem, is NFL (pretty much most sports) in contract negs. your comparing to other signings.. just the way it works.. even with draft signings.. other teams base thier contracts to 1st, 2nd rounders etc etc from what the top pick at that position or overall from that yr & the previous couple of years were.

Kinda nice thing about NCAA & Amateur sports.. yes still alot of politics.. but they play more for the love.. I mean 49million for 7yrs or whatever... really after the 1st few million does it REALLLLLY matter? Your there to play the game you "love & wanted to play NFL your whole life" now REALLY if that was the case.. 40 or 49million.. if you wanted to play SOOOOO badly would make a diff? Please. I always like watching/reading about Undrafted agents... they are often the guys that fight thier asses off to play or make the roster.. great to watch them pre-season too...(mind you they still make what.. min I think is 350k in the first yr)

Im actually more of a '1 guy in control' atmosphere.. but think it can work if the GM & the HC are on the same page.. thats REALLY important.. (case in point.. SD shouldnt have gotten rid of Marty that was TOTALLY politics over GM/HC not getting along) & in the end giving a guy control of drafts/signings etc.. is hard since its the HC & Coordinators that come up with the Off/Def styles etc... Ive always been a believer of adapting your Off/Def plans to what you have rather than forcing a piece to fit & when someone else is calling the shots that can be hard..but if you have a good combo then it works out.. WR is tough, from 9th & they actually have a decent mix with Vets & youth.. they might consider secondary I think.. & nothing EVER wrong picking up on the line.. but I think they drafted 2kids last yr on the line.. so maybe give them a chance..but yeah ANY line can always use work I think.. the old Dallas type of lines are just too hard to manage anymore you cant have a big name across the board anymore heh

Actually not even for a 2nd round choice, they swapped 2nd rounders so Chicago basically gave Thomas up to move up in the 2nd round.
That was pretty much a mugging if you ask me.

I hate it when teams in Fins division get better

oh.. yeah just saw quick liner about it.. hadn't seen all the details.. talk about steal much... ouuf...
I just wanna watch the Skins spend alot of cash that wont help them..
The giants seem to have alot of internal crap to work out between Coughlin & players... (Tiki wasnt the only disgruntled) & I was glad to watch the Eagles let Garcia go.. HUGE mistake.. dunno why they did that. for Feely.. Im mean.. yeah no.. not what you want to do when Garcia proves himself, was a fan fav.. just a bad move.. (yaaay for big D tho ;p) Although Im again not a fan of signing Brad Johnson.. I would try to find someone a little more similar to Romo so that the O doesnt have to change too much if/when called on.

I was waiting for someone to mention the Garcia trade. I think the Eagles have gone bonkos for sure, because the way I see it he stepped up for them huge and played a very major part in salvaging their season after their star QB got sidelined.

Some say "no, it's all the other marquee players on the Eagles that stepped up", but to those people I say sorry but a team without a strong QB is a team that almost always sucks ass and doesn't flush when they use the restroom.

This, in my view, was a tragic mistake. But whatever... it is without question their loss, and Tampa's gain. Hopefully they do something with him because he definitely played like a top 5 starter this past season.

Couldnt agree more...as much as Im not a fan, it still makes the organization as a whole look bad. Cutting loose the one guy that managed to get your team to winning the division. Ive watched McNabb since Syracuse actually. Was as the big div. game against miami actually right next to his mom & sister. Great guy & all.. but he hasnt been too productive the last couple of years. Id want my backup to have the same kinda 'grit' that he had. Garcia def. proved that for them. & he played in the CFL for years, I really dont think it would have come down to money to keeping him. Im actually not a over fan of his either, but you gotta give respect where its due... & hes earned it. I think he played probably the best I had seen him play in that Eagles O. Tampa really did well on that trade..Simms is supposed to be the starter..but giving Garcia pretty much the same contract to me looks like the spot is open. He might just get himself a starting role again & Gruden I think would be his kind of coach also... anyways.. Eagles loss.. DALLAS GAIN

I wish the Raiders would spend some money on throwing Al Davis a big retirement party so they can move out of the 80's.

I didn't know that...been buried chopping movies all day and haven't read the wires yet.
Holy shit Porter on one side and Taylor on the other with Zach Thomas and Channing Crowder stuffing the run up the middle. Top 5 defense for sure

CD Smith: I think the Eagles made the right move with Garcia. He wanted starter's money and a chance to compete for the #1 spot, he wasn't going to get that in Philly.

Remember a few years back when the Eagles made the playoffs with their 3rd string QB? Skill players aren't as important on an Andy Reid team as they are on most other teams, because the lines are so deep. Every year they draft a lineman on the first day, and it's paid off for them.

John Tomase, of the Boston Herald, reports New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, according to league sources, is enamored with Oakland Raiders WR Randy Moss and would be interested in acquiring the receiver in a trade if the price were right.

They release McMicheals also.. dunno why.. I liked the blend of young/vet WR they had..
Watch them grab a vet FA now or a throw away a decent pick on a WR..
I dont like that move
Eh, McMichael was an overacheiver for a 3rd round pick his first few years, but ever since he got that big contract 2 years ago he's been dropping passes like Eric Green. I'm glad they let him go although it would have been great if they could have traded him for someone instead of just cutting him.

I hate to see a guy like Welker go also, but he wasn't worth 2 draft picks plus the money he got paid. The dolphins got the better end of that deal IMO.
