At first I was going to give Lightspeed some serious shit... in fact, I'm guessing they didn't know the guy was a scammer. In that instance, he would deserve it.

However, this fuck is obviously sending the same goddamn letter out to everyone to get free shit. There is nobody with more empathy for the disabled then me... but it's obvious that this guy is completely insincere and getting as much as he can to profiteer.

I'm talked to multiple disableds on the phone back when I used to do my own customer service for my paysites when I was managing my own merchant account.

Hopefully someone like this guy doesn't ruin it for all the other good people that every now and again send real fan mail or ask for some help... As far as I'm concerned it's cool to give stuff away and be good to people, life and karma tends to be circular.

CLEARING THE AIR- I am GAVIN GROW, paralyzed in a motorcycle accident some years ago now. Was admitted into a nursing home for care. Family helped me get a computer so I practiced by writing fan mail to first all the comic artists I admired, then celebrities, sports stars, authors, etc. I am paralyzed from the neck down though I have gained some movement in my right arm whereby I can type using an adaptive brace and an upside-down pencil. I spend all day, everyday, in a hospital bed ,writing people that I admire or desire. All I ask for is an autographed photo, not phone calls, personal numbers, visits or website memberships. I have hundreds of photos that were given to me as well as autographed books, cds, baseballs, footballs, boxing gloves, dvds, etc. from celebrities in every genre. I have never sold anything besides a few pieces of comic art that I had multiple pieces of. I sold them 10 YEARS AGO to help get my wheelchair lift van. I HAVE NEVER SOLD ANYTHING ELSE! I HAVE NEVER SOLD ANYTHING ON EBAY! Also, the lady that said I was a paying customer that became too needy but has some sensation in his penis; definitely has me mistaken for some other person. I have never chatted or done the webcam thing with anyone. I don?t even own a webcam or a credit card. My only crime is not writing a new letter for each individual. It is way too exhausting typing for me to type a new letter for every person I admire. IMO this guy is making a living out this kind of shit and selling the signed photos on auction sites

I'd be more convinced of that if you had some actual proof to offer.

I think my idea of doing something nice for the guy while getting some almost-free publicity out of it is the way to go. And so what if he sells the photo? Big deal, it's still more publicity for Tawnee and LS.

hmm, I have put off replying to this thread and I honestly don't know why I am but here it goes.

My husband is disabled. He was on his motorcyle comming home from work one night when a drunk driver hit him side on and threw him across a motorway and into a brick wall. He was in a coma for three months and when he came out he he couldn't walk. He spent a year in a wheelchair and being told that he would never walk again.

He is a bullheaded man, so he wouldn't take that as a final answer and convinced them to try physical therapy. Luckily for us both he did learn to walk again. The problem is that he is left with extreme pain when he does walk, and he can't do it without two crutches. In addition the circulation in his legs is so poor that he has developed extreme non-healing leg ulcers in his legs. These are like hot pokers all the time.

He went from being a well known print journalist in London to a man who finds it near impossible to leave the house without being on an electric scooter (he refuses to go back in a normal wheel chair).

All of that and he is one of the lucky ones. There are so many people that go through their existance trying to squeak out what little bit they can while they lay there just waiting to die. I always cared about the disabled before but since marrying my husband their treatment has become so much more important to me. Largely because I see every day how difficult things are for them.

So, with this whole thing I am left in three minds.

Firstly, why post the letter here? If you felt sorry for him why use the word pathetic? I am not attacking, just encouraging a rethink next time.

Secondly, even if it isn't real what do you lose? Like someone said, send a clothed pic with a stamp on it. The worst that happens is you are out a pic.

Thridly, If it is a scam then the guy behind it has recived all my indignation for taking advantage of the disabled and making their status in soceity all that more difficult.

I have never sold anything besides a few pieces of comic art that I had multiple pieces of. I sold them 10 YEARS AGO to help get my wheelchair lift van. I HAVE NEVER SOLD ANYTHING ELSE! I HAVE NEVER SOLD ANYTHING ON EBAY! Also, the lady that said I was a paying customer that became too needy but has some sensation in his penis; definitely has me mistaken for some other person.
