I am using Arles Image. Great program. Resizes pics and create thumbs and galleries or whatever u like. Not sure if it's free, but I dont think it costs much. If you are broke I suppose u can find a serial somewhere...

Irfanview is my choice for image editing. It has a batch mode to handle multiple images. And,,,,it's free.
