:stop Michael Waltrip - Nascar - how did he cheat?

I've seen some news about Michael Waltrip in Nascar, he's apologizing, but what the hell did he do? I just keep reading that he's sorry for cheating, and that his team used extra fuel additives and got a penalty. Is there more to the story?

Yeah there's more.

Tune in Sunday at 10:00 on Fox Sports for all the latest news and updates. And don't forget to watch the post race show featuring D.W. and all the gang. That's this Sunday immediately following the Daytona 500.... FOX 11 SPORTS!!! The official home of Nascar!

NASCAR found some type of chemical substance that was on the inside of his intake. They took that intake system away and the team had to put on another one. On the replacement intake NASCAR found again some type of unknown chemical and this time took the entire car away. End result is that the crew chief and one engineer were fired from Michael Waltrip Racing, and the same two people are "indefinitely" banned by NASCAR for working on any other team.

Needless to say, Toyota was NOT amused either considering the time and money they have pumped into Waltrip's new operation.

I've never been a Waltrip fan but he earned my respect today. While I think it's totally bogus that he "came real close to not running" in the Daytona 500 (Either you will or you won't, I don't care that you ALMOST didn't), it's very rare for someone today to actually take responsibility for anything. Whether or not he actually had a direct hand in cheating, stepping up and accepting responsibility as opposed to just passing the buck, gets high marks in my book.

All boils down to Nascar attempting to regulate the cheating a bit. Yes everyone cheats. However one of the major Nascar sins even among the cheaters is to not tamper with the fuel.

God I hate when the rednecks come to town.. Traffic is a bitch and all you see are morons walking around as walking advertisements for Tide laundry detergent, McDonald's and Home Depot.

All seem "electrifying" when compared to watching a car drive in 200 circles for 5 hours

Na I can watch F-1, road racing and even road ralleys, but NASCAR killed off what ever bit of racing they had from the 80's. Now days it's nothing but rolling billboards and throw a caution if the right guy isn't out front or if one guy runs away from the rest.

I should have specified Nascar or anything that causes a car to drive in a circles for 5 hours

rally cars are awesome, and road racing can be fun too..

I've been at the track all week and I have to say that my favorite part is when they confiscate parts for inspection

It's called throwing someone under the bus. The Crew Chief gets a $100k fine and likely will lose his job, and MW gets to come out looking okay.

It's all good in the end and they will make a funny NAPA commercial out of it soon enough.

Yep, you're right. Obviously I didn't read far enough into the articles I read. Hey, I said I never liked Waltrip.

Which of these scenarios seems more likely to you.

1. Michael Waltrip gathers about 150 of his employees back at the race shop and says " I have to make the Daytona 500 even if we have to cheat so let's see what we can come up with ".

2. The crew chief of Michael's team which is one of three working for Michael Waltrip Racing, under enormous pressure to succeed, decides on his own to skirt the rules and got caught.

Either way it was a stupid move with EVERYONE watching what Toyota does.
I don't think Michael would do that knowing what was on the line. BTW the crew chief was fined $100,000 and suspended from NASCAR indefinitely.
