![]() Alright I'm planning a trip to Budapest towards the end of march. Any recommendations on what places to visit?
This will be a leisure trip but I'll also check out the living conditions etc since I'm planning on moving somewhere for a couple of months to take a break and experience something new other than living in Mexico and the US, gotta love working from a computer and being able to do your work from anywhere with an internet connection ![]() One last thing. Do you think a one week trip will be more than enough for visiting Budapest? Thanks! |

I would do some online research. One week would be fine but I think it's always best to at least 2 weeks when traveling to Europe. Especially if you are looking to live there for a while.

Yeah already did a bunch of online research, but wanted some more opinions, and I was thinking of 2 weeks so I might do that, I was in China and Cuba for 2 weeks each and it did seem to go by really fast.

one week is def. too short - just checked out some Hungary Travel Packages here: The country is very big and has a lot of opportunities you should really visit, even 2 or 3 weeks are very short ;)

yeah,10 or more days is enough to see our city.
And if you plan to move here for a while, there are lost of good places downtown. And as I read in a newspaper yesterday Hungary is one of the cheapest country to buy/rent a flat/house... so good luck with it! you'll love this city. And I hope you won't find yourself in the middle of another riot ![]() We'll have our national celebration on March 15, and they say, that could be a mess again... ...ah...to see the whole country it takes more than 2 weeks as Mark said. |

No real recommendations, except if you can, delay your trip until at least spring. Budapest is a big, gray, ugly shit hole in the winter, but it does improve a bit in spring and summer. As for moving here, well, I wouldn't recommend that either, but who knows, maybe you'll love the place. To each his own, I guess.

Spend a day at the Spa on the island ...
There is also a nice typical village about 30 minutes out of Buda .... Went there so long ago ( 15 years. ago )... Food was amazing.

Kirupai, I stayed in a fine apartment (spacious bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, own front door, wifi, run by a friendly american, centrally located in Pest, HUF12,500/EUR50 per night) just over a week ago. E-mail me if you want more info: rhesus at gmail.com
Be sure to bring bathers! Budapest has a number of great thermal baths from the Turkish era and it would be a shame not to visit them. It's a lovely city! |

While Hungary may be poor, Budapest is, in modernness and organisation, comparable to other European cities like Paris and Brussels. Prices are not as low as you'd expect from an eastern/central european country, but then again it's a major European capital (and prices are indeed lower than western European capitals). Food is cheap though, and the city seems to have a number of very trendy clubs and restaurants. It's still pretty cold, but why would that make it a 'shit hole'?
The architecture is wonderful... |
