Does ur accountant know u sell porn?

Just wondering... Is it really necessary to tell them or is it irrelevant?

And usually when you do your taxes do you already have all your expenses added up and categorized and give that to your cpa? Or do you just hand over all your receipts and stuff to your cpa and let them add it all up and figure it all out?

Does anyone just give their cpa their accounting software files like Quickbooks or Acelite? Is that acceptable?

Just wondering how other people organize their stuff.

She's never asked. She knows I run websites but has never asked any specifics. I'd be honest with her if she ever did ask.

I never knew you could do that, although I heard of people dumping receipts like that... Usually I always add it up myself and give it to them, and they would categorize it, like put hosting in "equipment rental" category etc...

In order for your cpa to figure it out by receipts he must know what domain renewals are, or what hosting is... Seems a lot of cpa's don't even know what these are... so I don't see how I can just dump receipts on them without explaining everything...

You mean you actually dump all your expenses receipts?? What about porn check stubs? Do you just dump those too??

This year I kept all my files in Acelite which is an accounting software thingie. So I added in each and every check stub I received, the amount, company etc plus I have all my expenses in there... I don't know if I should print it out and give it to them in the raw format? Or just give them the figure of it all added up??

The years before that just added it up myself and gave them the figures...

Pretty hard for them not to know once they see the receipts for the deductions, if you shoot content, attend shows, etc. as I do.

No big deal...at least I pay my taxes. I'm sure there are some, perhaps many, that do not.

of course!
it would be difficult to get into the details of the accounting if you weren't open with your accountant.

I don't shoot content or go to any shows... but I never showed any cpa my receipts... I usually have all my expenses already added up, and I'll tell them : This much was spent on equipment rental, this much was spent on advertising, this much on computer stuff, this much on internet access, etc...

It never even dawned on me to just give receipts...

Yea but if you let your cpa add it all up you still have to explain what is what to him. How will he know what receipt is for hosting, and what is for for advertising. etc... So I would still have to sit there and tell him...

Actually, I provide my return info categorized, plus the receipts that support my figures organized on both an Excel spreadsheet, and in paper form.

The purpose of the CPA is to have a professional double check my work, to recommend any changes, and to certify the results.

SOP in many businesses...the CPA's work is deductible too.

Oh I see. I was hesitant to do this because in my accounting software I entered all checks in by their company names and some are well known adult companies... I'm afraid a cpa will refuse my business if they knew it was porn related.

The CPA we used when we owned a computer store, decided she didn't want to work with us in smut, but suggested someone who might fit.

Our new CPA loves us! Could be that he's gay, and loves porn. Go figure.

CPA's get paid to crunch numbers, provide tax advice, and verify returns, not pass judgement on your legal business.

As if working for corporate defrauders, polluters, war profiteers, shady money launderers, corrupt religious institutions, etc., is somehow better than aiding in preparing tax reports for legally operated adult businesses which harm no one.

Search around, there are plenty of professional accountants out there who will do their best to earn your business...

No, but I wouldn't have a major problem with telling her either. If she didn't want the busines, there would be someone else who does.

I have everything totaled and just hand her the information. I am too 'hands on' about my money to do it any other way.

No they do not. They have never asked. I have never told.

I give them my Quickbooks sheet. They do not need my receipts. I have all of them for EVERYTHING I have bought. Both business and personal. So if they ever audit me. Hopefully they have plenty of free time as I can account for every dime.

On receipts.. As they said to me, "We are not the one's who need them. If you are audited, YOU will however".

Another question, do you guys usually use your bank statements for receipts (it's itemized and shows the exact charge for expenses) or do you print out receipts... Like for example for hosting co's or domain renewals they will send you an e-mail receipt you can print out... Usually I just use bank statements... Is that good enough?

they should not care so much what you do other than "internet marketing". just bring in your numbers and your all set. of course it does depend on how big/complex your biz is

You have to print a copy chief. You need a 'receipt'. Any good CPA would tell you this. A bank statement is not enough.

Exactly!
If your only going to tell two people what you actually do, tell your lawyer and your accountant.

I actually dont know how they would be able to do their job without having enough information to know anyways.

It's cheaper than butt sex in prison.

If you have thousands, then you can afford a new cartridge(s).

We are spoiled our accountant does everything for us. We just drop off bills and receipts and he takes care of it all. And yes he knows what we do. Makes it a lot easier when you are honest.

Good accountants don't care what you do. They care about your money, your taxes, and how to save you money and fulfill your government requirements.
