NO!! I could not! however if I had just been studying this stuff and had memorized it then yes, perhaps.

That's one thing I wonder about democracy - it should be absolutely essential that the voting populace is taught how the system works, who is working it, and everything about politics, so that when it comes around to voting time, they can make an informed decision and not just be bought out by a 'campaign'.

I never learnt one thing about politics in school. Yet I am a voter. It doesn't make sense.

very well said..I agree..about the learning part that is, voting is a waste of time..it does give a grand illusion of choice though..

We had tests like that when I was in school. 7th or 8th grade history class is usually US history. It's not hard to know that stuff when you go over it everyday.

I know I took a lot of tests in 7th-8th grade that I could never pass now even though I had gotten high 90's to 100 percents on back then.

I would just memorize the proper answers for everything. Hell in what was it 3rd or 4th grade I could spit out all the state names and capitals, I know damn well I would screw that up now too.

Problem is most schools these days teach for placement tests instead of what's actually important.

From Snopes:
http://www.snopes.com/language/document/1895exam.htm

Plenty of critics maintain that most of today's teaching candidates couldn't pass this test. Well, even if that were true, it wouldn't make today's candidates all that different than their 19th century counterparts. As Joseph Crosby, the man who created the English Grammar and Orthography sections of this exam, wrote to a friend in 1876:

I gave them a pretty severe test in Grammar, and some of them did make terrible work of it. One young lady said the singular of "Swine" was "pigs", another "a hog". One being asked to give me the past tense of "I lie down" said "I lied", which she certainly did. Out of some 30 or 35 words I gave them to spell, not over 10 were spelled correctly by any one, several missed on all but 5 or 6 -- Yet they blushed & tried so hard to do well -- and many were graduates of the High School -- that I was sorry for them. I had no idea that graduates could be so ignorant.

Those test questions really aren't useful, especially not for an 8th grader unless their planning to get hardcore into politics...

The US school system sucks for the non-smart and non-rich, but then again that is not such a bad thing as you always need grunt workers, plus there's less competition thanks to the poor educational system.

Bah, it was in the 50's. The climate was a bit different then and politicians carried more "respect". These days I don't hear of many, if any, politicians being held with high regards by anyone.

I had to take a mandatory class in grade 8 called Lifeskills. Oh joy. It was 8 weeks of everything: 8 weeks of cooking, sewing, metalwork, woodwork, financial management (including how to file your taxes and balance your bank account), and a few other choice goodies that I can't remember.
