we used to do something similar with bees, you'd freeze them so they would go to sleep, then tie thread around their torso, and then tie the thread to a stick that is longer than the thread (for obvious reasons) then when it woke up you had a pet bee and could chase your friends with it.

 when i was in college and friend and I froze a bee then put it on a string and kept it in the living room as a pet... but never made a plane out of it
