Who are the techies on GFY?

I'm talking about the guys with Computer Degrees, and that have the whole alphabet soup of certifications:

MCSE, CCNA, CCIE, Linux certification, etc....

just wanted to see who really knows computers and not just web stuff...

There is a pyramid you have to follow in order before you can go for your ccie. CCNA is first then CCNP and then CCIE. thats the msot direct path. CCNA and the lower tests are only a couple hundred to take.

Cisco Cert paths.

http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le...hs_ home.html

Spasmo's a smart cookie i'm sure he was probably CCIE lab as well, most CCIE people out there are CCIE test only no lab anyone can memorize a book but performing in the LAB is a whole different story.

Who said you had to have a degree or certifications to really know computers? besides myself I know alot of other people that could easily go take those tests and get certs, but why? to have a peice of paper on the wall? I've interviewed people with MCSE and they didn't even know what DNS stood for. The only real cert I would care about would be CCIE Lab, i'm not for people who pump and dump to the brain to take a test.

A+, Microsoft and Linux certifications are all a complete load of shit. The Cisco certifications hold far more water. Having said all that, I will take the guy with proven hands on experience over someone with just A+/Microsoft/Linux certification _ANY_ day of the week.

Pretty hard to talk trash about CCIE though, some pretty tight hoops to jump through to get that nailed down.

blah blah blah..i knew this response was coming....read my thread again...i was asking who the techies are on GFY, other than those that just do web stuff.

everyone always says why would you have to have a degree or certifications to know computers. and the ones that say that are the ones that always don't have the certifications....

and just an example...two awesome techies are real experts with computers, but one has all the certifications and a four year degree and the other one doesn't have shit! who would you hire now? the one without anything to show for?????

and guess what....having a degree and those certifications show that a person is not lazy and willing to study and endour four years (or 6 for a masters degree)...it shows a little something about their character compared to a person with nothing to show for....

it gets to me when people open there mouth talking about "why would you want to graduate from college and have all those certifications. just to have a paper to hang on the wall?"

He is actually right, getting certs doesn't take much skill at all, everyone has one now a days and they all think they are special for some reason..

As long as you are not a complete idiot, you can just buy some study guides/test questions/etc, spend 2 weeks studying and have a good chance of passing...

And..a college degree is not even in the same ballpark as certs, to get a 4 year degree, you need to pass perhaps 40 classes, with a cert it's really like passing one or maybe 2 classes...

My take on the whole certification (or degree for that matter) thing is to each his or her own. I don't have a degree, and wouldn't have any certifications at all if the opportunity didn't present itself in a work situation where they were paying for it.

I was lucky to be in the middle of the dot com bubble, and they were paying for anything and everything back then.
